Truancy Volume 328: Etari

Opening with grace and gleaming material, « Illusion Day » is an ode to glittering future. The subtle tinkling synth loop, grainy guitar-like riff set the scene, a landscape of on old Eastwood’s western giving a first glimpse at Alpine DJ’s vintage aesthetics.
« Illusion Day » is a warm and friendly welcome into the whole EP, with this sweet dim-light infused vocal drawn from the post-disco hit of British trio Imagination, suavity of a refined echo and an end-of-day promise upon the ochre desert.  
Rooted in old school house and trivial synths, the first build-up heralds the groundwork of the whole EP : a singular mix of catchy sonorities, a skillful blend of instruments showing the producer’s ability to craft both fresh, contemporary and nineties inspired tracks.

Manta (she/her)

Manta is a Berlin-based DJ, a fierce Chilena Italiana drawing inspiration from cultures and time in a samba band. Her genre-fluid sound brings rhythmic percussive energy with layered basslines. Manta's latest project, frog.bln, is a party series creating a community for FLINTA* prog house artists and dancers. In 2022, she also founded @visionskollektiv, a transdisciplinary collective that organizes festivals, club nights, film nights and workshops.

Notes on the Mix ///

"This mix is a recording of a set I prepared over a year ago, one I’ve kept in my archives until now. It blends hardgroove and tech house. Yum percussive beats, dub basslines and atmospheric synths. Featuring tracks from Saoirse, Bashkka, Ray Kandinski, Amaliah and Bambounou (thank you), this set stays true to my love for swung groove and captures the fast edge of my sound. Listening back, I feel proud of where I’ve come from. Back then, I never would’ve released this. I didn’t think I was good enough. These days, I’m a bit kinder to myself. I look for archival wins to celebrate and remember to enjoy the process. I have practiced and learned so much; it just gets more fun out there. To all emerging artists: keep going, you got this, you are the queen!"
