Now one of dance music’s most respected DJs, Avalon Emerson first made a name for herself in the storied warehouse scene of her birthplace, San Francisco, before relocating to Berlin in 2013. Over a decade of performances at the famed Berghain led to appearances at numerous festivals around the world which all cemented Emerson, and her evocative, genre- and decade-spanning sets, as perennially in demand. 

In 2020, she released her first full-length collection: a contribution to the longrunning DJ-Kicks series (which Resident Advisor described as “The sound of a well-honed DJ at the top of her game.”), nestled alongside a steady stream of remix releases for the likes of Four Tet, Slowdive, Robyn and more.

Next up was 2023’s Avalon Emerson & The Charm, an instant classic which saw Emerson exploring her singing voice and more traditional songwriting outside of the boundaries of her dance music work.  Created after a move to New York, the resulting & The Charm album was released to critical acclaim, landing on numerous critics’ best-of-the-year lists.

The stage is now set, then, for her to carve out a wholly unique path, and with the help of new label home and indie giant, Dead Oceans, Emerson is poised to connect her various musical endeavors to create an untouchably rich output of material. First up is Perpetual Emotion Machine, consisting of songs created for her DJ sets, delivered via a living, evolving project and announced ahead of her worldwide tour.

Segun Akinola is a composer for film and television who has strengthened many projects with his musical acumen. He is most known for his music in the latest series of 'Doctor Who', starring the first female Doctor, Jodie Whittaker. Segun’s work is a key immersive tool for showrunner Chris Chibnall and series directors to establish the many adventures the Doctor and her friends travel on. These include the impressive 80s influenced electronic score for 'The Tsuranga Conundrum' to the heart-wrenching 'Demons of the Punjab' which utilised specialist Indian musicians and orchestra, all recorded at Abbey Road Studios. 

Most recently, Segun completed scoring Sundance 2019 selection 'The Last Tree' and again recorded his score at Abbey Road Studios. This is Segun’s second feature film collaboration with director Shola Amoo after festival favourite 'A Moving Image', and will compete in the World Fiction strand.

A BAFTA Breakthrough Brit, Segun’s other work includes scoring BBC Two’s landmark four-part series 'Black and British: A Forgotten History', written and presented by Historian David Olusoga OBE. Regularly collaborating on BBC projects, he completed the scores for the major three-part series 'The Human Body: Secrets of Your Life Revealed' and two-part series 'Expedition Volcano', both for BBC Two and PBS.

His score for Shola Amoo's short 'Dear Mr Shakespeare' received an Honourable Mention at the Jerry Goldsmith Awards. In addition, he's written music for a project from Academy Award-winning American producers Shine Global: the 3D documentary '1 Way Up'. His work has screened at acclaimed festivals like Sundance, the London Film Festival, LA Film Festival, BlackStar Film Festival and many others.

After initially learning the piano and drums at a young age, he later turned his attention to composition, graduating from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with first-class honours and the National Film and Television School with an MA in Composing for Film and Television.
