Zerbrochen sein und trotzdem nicht aufgeben - das ist kein Albumthema, das ist eine Haltung. Mit "The End" haben Jessi und Flo ein Debüt geschaffen, das kurz vor dem Aufgeben beginnt - und genau da nicht aufhört.

"The End" erscheint am 19. Juni 2026 und ist das erste Langformat eines Duos, das seit seiner Gründung 2017 in Köln und Düsseldorf konsequent seinen eigenen Weg gegangen ist: Aufnahmen mit dem 4-Spur-Kassettenrekorder, selbst produzierte Camcorder-Videos, Tape-Releases - vollständige künstlerische Kontrolle, kein Label, kein Kompromiss. Ihr Sound trägt den Namen "Soft Riot Pop": bittersüße Melodien, die in nervös drängende Rhythmen kippen. Poppige Gitarren gegen düstere Synthesizer. Fragile Schönheit und laute Rohheit.

Dass die internationale Indie-Szene aufmerksam geworden ist, belegt das Line-up des Manchester Popfest 2026, bei dem kamikaze neben Gina Birch (The Raincoats), Trash Kit und The Cords spielen. Für eine Band, die im britischen Indie-Pop eine natürliche Heimat findet, ist das keine Überraschung, sondern eine logische Konsequenz.

Jeder Song auf "The End" beleuchtet einen anderen Aggregatzustand desselben Gefühls: Alles endet, aber nichts ist vorbei. "Dreamland" ist die Erschöpfung im eigenen Kopf, "Hell" das Aufbegehren gegen moralische Fremdbestimmung, "Drown" die stille Selbstaufgabe in einer anderen Person. Der Opener "Revenge Dress" - benannt nach einem der ikonischsten Auftritte von Prinzessin Diana - setzt den Ton: Selbstbestimmung als Akt des Widerstands. Darauf folgt die Riot Grrrl-Abrechnung "X Me Out". Und schnell wird deutlich: Die Suche nach Verbindungen und Verbündeten - vor allem unter künstlerisch aktiven FLINTA* - war prägend für das Album. Das Album endet mit "Camp Funtime" und den Worten "No more fun" - ein letzter kleiner Abschied, wie so viele auf diesem Album. "Dabei geht es nicht nur um das Ende des Lebens", sagt Jessi, "sondern auch um die vielen kleinen Abschiede von Beziehungen, Träumen, Scham und Leichtigkeit." Das weinende, aber nach vorne blickende Auge im Artwork bringt die Haltung des Albums ohne Umweg auf den Punkt: verbunden in Tränen und Hoffnung.

Zwei ausverkaufte EPs, Support-Shows für Death Valley Girls (2024) und The Exbats (2023) sowie eine Live-Session bei Orange 'Ear (2018) markieren die wichtigsten Stationen des bisherigen Weges.

It's not just ICE, however, Donald Trump and the Republican party are laying waste to much of what makes our country special.  Resistance is critical and must be widespread. I'm Greg Vaughan, owner of Standing Wave Music, a recording studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
