FRESH ON THE NET 539 - MY FAVS

A soundscape of distorted percussion, screeching saxophones, fuzz guitars and bass riffs remembers the lullabies of MRI machines and chemo pumps in "Down," the newest track from Arthur Squawks!, an artist collective.

Upcoming debut album 'Hospital' follows the frontman's experience in the cancer ward of an Athenian hospital, aiming to retell the story as a rock n roll tale.

i wrote 'gut' to remind me to listen to that feeling in your body - the noise you get in the pit of your stomach when something just isn't right - when your thoughts won't stop racing and you just wanna get off the ride. 

described by my drummer as 'arlo parks meets bonobo'.

What was a night of hedonistic pursuit, suddenly turns into some serious questioning of your choices and a low-key existential crisis; an anthem for anyone who loves the ‘sesh’ be it now or in times gone by; we’ve all lost our head at an Afters.

This song was crafted around the concept of having warped memories of a bad relationship. The after thoughts of only remembering the good points and how our mind chooses to omit the reasons it didn't work, trying to draw us back into something negative. The glitchy vocals represent those moments when the thoughts try and creep in and take us somewhere we know isn't a good idea. Building to a head when everything seems to be at its calmest and those feelings seem to have gone, but only come back stronger. One of lifes true tests, to accept and move on.

Dial in the drive, make the lights goes red and enjoy the journey. Inspired by a love of all things electric, eclectic and that sit outside of the distribution curve. When it comes to pitching tracks, it can be difficult to decide on genre. I love this…keep translating mental imagery, those swirling or distinct sounds that you wake up with and all is well. Hope you enjoy and if you can dance to this…even better. Retro Fitted Memory is the outcome of a cumulative residual set of memories of sound that have swirled around my head for decades. Was it that episode of Miami Vice or that album by Rock legends (…….) I don’t know. It’s the ‘tone’ that was and still is cemented in my mind that I was trying to convey rather than the notes. There’s a silvered gold colour for me. Hopefully, you can immerse a little and capture 3 minutes of well-being through sound. Thanks for stopping by 😎
