ਗੋਪਿਨ ਬਾਚ ਊਧਵ ਸੋ ॥
Speech of the gopis addressed to Udhava:

ਸਵੈਯਾ ॥
SWAYYA

ਮਿਲ ਕੈ ਤਿਨ ਊਧਵ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਸੋ ਸੁਨ ਊਧਵ ਯੌ ਕਹੀਯੋ ॥

ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਕਰਿ ਊਧਵ ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਜਿਤੋ ਪਠਿਯੋ ਤਿਤਨੋ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਗਹੀਯੋ ॥
All of them collectively said to Udhava, “O Udhava! you may talk to Krishna like this that all the words of wisdom that he had sent through you, have been imbibed by us

ਸਭ ਹੀ ਇਨ ਗ੍ਵਾਰਨਿ ਪੈ ਕਬਿ ਸ੍ਯਾਮ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਹਿਤ ਆਖਨ ਸੋ ਚਹੀਯੋ ॥

ਇਨ ਕੋ ਤੁਮ ਤਿਆਗ ਗਏ ਮਥੁਰਾ ਹਮਰੀ ਸੁਧਿ ਲੇਤ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੀਯੋ ॥੯੨੯॥
“O Udhava! taking into consideration our welfare, tell it definitely to Krishna that forsaking us he had gone to Matura, but there also he should keep in touch with us.”929.

ਜਬ ਊਧਵ ਸੋ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਤਬ ਊਧਵ ਕੋ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
When gopis said all this to Udhava, he was then also filled with love

ਅਉਰ ਗਈ ਸੁਧਿ ਭੂਲ ਸਭੈ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਹੁਤੋ ਸੁ ਟਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥
He lost his consciousness and the brilliance of wisdom ended in his mind

ਸੋ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਗ੍ਵਾਰਨਿ ਕੇ ਅਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਕੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਢਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥

ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਕੇ ਡਾਰ ਮਨੋ ਕਪਰੇ ਹਿਤ ਕੀ ਸਰਿਤਾ ਹਿਤ ਮਹਿ ਕੂਦ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਹੈ ॥੯੩੦॥
He also began to talk about love in the company of gopis and it appeared that he had put off the clothes of wisdom and had plunged into the stream of love.930.

ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਗੁਆਰਨਿ ਕੇ ਜਬ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਗ੍ਵਾਰਨਿ ਕੋ ਹਿਤ ਚੀਨੋ ॥
When Udhava recognised the love of gopis, he also began to converse with the gopis about love

ਊਧਵ ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਦਯੋ ਤਜਿ ਕੈ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਜਬ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੋ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
Udhava gathered love in his mind and abandoned his wisdom

ਹੋਇ ਗਯੋ ਤਨਮੈ ਹਿਤ ਸੋ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸੁ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਹੀਨੋ ॥
His mind was fille with love to such an extent that he also said that on forsaking Braja, Krishna had made Braja very poor

ਤ੍ਯਾਗਿ ਗਏ ਤੁਮ ਕੋ ਮਥਰਾ ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਕਾਮ ਸਖੀ ਘਟ ਕੀਨੋ ॥੯੩੧॥
But O friend! the day when Krishna went to Mathura, his sexual instinct has deteriorated.931.

ਸਿਤਤਾ ਬਿਭੂਤ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਖੁਲੀ ਨਿਮੇਖ ਸੰਦੀ ਅੰਜਨ ਦੀ ਸੇਲੀ ਦਾ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਸੁਭ ਭਾਖਣਾ ॥
‘I have been languishing in his remembrance, my body has turned into ashes (of passion), ‘Tell him about my wearing a patched coat and a cap of a renouncer in his memory.

ਭਗਵਾ ਸੁ ਭੇਸ ਸਾਡੇ ਨੈਣਾ ਦੀ ਲਲਾਈ ਸਈਯੋ ਯਾਰਾ ਦਾ ਧ੍ਯਾਨੁ ਏਹੋ ਕੰਦ ਮੂਲ ਚਾਖਣਾ ॥
‘I have adorned saffron clothes (of an ascetic), my eyes have turned red in pain and I am living on the food of his thought.

ਰੌਦਨ ਦਾ ਮਜਨੁ ਸੁ ਪੁਤਰੀ ਪਤ੍ਰ ਗੀਤ ਗੀਤਾ ਦੇਖਣ ਦੀ ਭਿਛ੍ਰਯਾ ਧ੍ਯਾਨ ਧੂੰਆ ਬਾਲ ਰਾਖਣਾ ॥
‘I take my bath in my tears, and, while craving for his vision, my eyes are producing smoky flames.

ਆਲੀ ਏਨਾ ਗੋਪੀਯਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਖੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਜੋਗੁ ਸਾਰਾ ਨੰਦ ਦੇ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਰੂਰ ਜਾਇ ਆਖਣਾ ॥੬॥
‘O, my friend! Go and do tell the son of Nand the story of the self modification of the eyes of the milk-maids.’(6)

“O Udhava! listen to us

ਬਿਰਹਾ ਤਬ ਆਇ ਕੈ ਮੋਹਿ ਗ੍ਰਸੈ ਤਿਹ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਸਏ ਨ ਜੀਯੋ ਮਰਿ ਹੋਂ ॥
Whenever we meditate on Krishna, then the pangs of the fire of separation greatly afflict us, by which we are neither alive nor dead

ਕਬੀਰ ਬਿਰਹੁ ਭੁਯੰਗਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਬਸੈ ਮੰਤੁ ਨ ਮਾਨੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
Kabeer, the snake of separation from the Lord abides within my mind; it does not respond to any mantra.

ਰਾਮ ਬਿਓਗੀ ਨਾ ਜੀਐ ਜੀਐ ਤ ਬਉਰਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੭੬॥
One who is separated from the Lord does not live; if he does live, he goes insane. ||76||

ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥
Each and every instant, the rainbird cries and calls.

ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਦੇਖੇ ਨਂੀਦ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
Without seeing her Beloved, she does not sleep at all.

ਇਹੁ ਵੇਛੋੜਾ ਸਹਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
She cannot endure this separation.

ਨ ਕਛੂ ਸੁਧਿ ਮੋ ਤਨ ਮੈ ਰਹਿ ਹੈ ਧਰਨੀ ਪਰ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਬਿਸੁਧੀ ਝਰਿ ਹੋਂ ॥

ਤਿਹ ਤੇ ਹਮ ਕੋ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਿਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਸੋ ਧੀਰਜ ਹਉ ਧਰਿ ਹੋਂ ॥੯੩੭॥

ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਬਿਯੋਗ ਕੋ ਮਾਨਿ ਬਧੂ ਬ੍ਰਿਜ ਡੋਲਤ ਹੈ ਬਨ ਬੀਚ ਦਿਵਾਨੀ ॥

ਕੂੰਜਨ ਜਯੋ ਕੁਰਲਾਤ ਫਿਰੈ ਤਿਹ ਜਾ ਜਿਹ ਜਾ ਕਛੁ ਖਾਨ ਨ ਪਾਨੀ ॥

ਏਕ ਗਿਰੈ ਮੁਰਝਾਇ ਧਰਾ ਪਰ ਏਕ ਉਠੈ ਕਹਿ ਕੈ ਇਹ ਬਾਨੀ ॥

ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਤਾ (ਭਾਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦੁਰ) ਨੇ ਪੂਰਬ ਵਲ ਜਾਣਾ ਕੀਤਾ
My father (Guru Tegh Bahadur) proceeded towards the east.

ਭਾਂਤਿ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਕੇ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਨਾ ॥
ਅਤੇ ਭਿੰਨ ਭਿੰਨ ਤੀਰਥਾ ਉਤੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ।
He bathed at several places of pilgrimage.

ਜਬ ਹੀ ਜਾਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਬੇਣੀ ਭਏ ॥
ਜਦ ਉਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਵੇਣੀ (ਪ੍ਰਯਾਗ) ਪਹੁੰਚੇ,
When he went to Triveni (Prayag),

ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨ ਦਿਨ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਤਏ ॥੧॥
(ਤਾ ਉਥੇ) ਪੁੰਨ-ਦਾਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਈ ਦਿਨ ਬਿਤਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ॥੧॥
he passed his days in acts of charity ||1||

ਤਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਭਯੋ ॥
ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਡਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੋਇਆ (ਅਰਥਾਤ ਗਰਭ-ਸਥਿਤ ਹੋਏ)
I was conceived there.

ਪਟਨਾ ਸਹਰ ਬਿਖੈ ਭਵ ਲਯੋ ॥
ਅਤੇ ਪਟਨਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਜਨਮ ਹੋਇਆ।
I took birth at Patna City.

ਮੱਦ੍ਰ ਦੇਸ ਹਮ ਕੋ ਲੇ ਆਏ ॥
(ਪੂਰਬ ਤੋਂ) ਸਾਨੂੰ ਮਦ੍ਰ ਦੇਸ਼ (ਪੰਜਾਬ) ਵਿਚ ਲੈ ਆਏ
When I was brought to Punjab,

ਭਾਂਤਿ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਦਾਈਅਨਿ ਦੁਲਰਾਏ ॥੨॥
ਅਤੇ ਤਰ੍ਰਹਾ ਤਰ੍ਰਹਾ ਦਾਈਆਂ ਨੇ ਲਾਡ ਕਰਕੇ (ਵੱਡਾ ਕੀਤਾ) ॥੨॥
I was nurtured by various nurses. ||2||

ਕੀਨੀ ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਤਨ ਰੱਛਾ ॥
ਅਨੇਕ ਤਰ੍ਰਹਾ ਨਾਲ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਦੀ ਰਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ
I was given physical protection in various ways.

ਦੀਨੀ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਕੀ ਸਿੱਛਾ ॥
ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਰਹਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ।
And I was given various types of education.

ਜਬ ਹਮ ਧਰਮ ਕਰਮ ਮੋ ਆਏ ॥
ਜਦ ਅਸੀਂ ਧਰਮ ਕਰਮ (ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਣ ਦੇ) ਯੋਗ ਹੋਏ
When I began to understand the righteous path,

ਦੇਵ ਲੋਕ ਤਬ ਪਿਤਾ ਸਿਧਾਏ ॥੩॥
ਤਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਜੀ ਦੇਵ-ਲੋਕ ਨੂੰ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ (ਭਾਵ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਹੋ ਗਏ) ॥੩॥
my father departed for his heavenly abode ||3||
