Sublime Frequencies is thrilled to present a second volume of classic tracks from Algeria's popular music history. Where volume 1 focused on the early to mid-1970s Rai scene in western Algeria, this album features a variety of pop and folk styles from that same period. From the heavier rock and psychedelic sounds of Rachid & Fethi, Les Djinns and Les Abranis, to the haunting folk music of Kri Kri and Djamel Allem and the film soundtrack moods of Ahmed Malek, 1970s Algerian Folk & Pop documents a key period in the modern musical renaissance of a nation in transition. Most of these tracks are from 45 rpm singles, the key format during the early 1970s before the cassette took over as the medium of choice. Western musical influences can be heard throughout this extremely diverse record, yet there is an undeniable Algerian sense of sadness contained here within a more tolerant space in time between two of the country's most significant historical periods; National Independence from France and the darker times of a brutal civil war yet to come. Compiled by Hicham Chadly, this limited edition LP comes in a full-color gatefold jacket with lovely images from the period and extensive liner-notes by Omar Zelig, Algeria's most legendary radio DJ.

When musicians become older quite (الترجمة العربية أسفله) out completely new musical directions. Fadoul is no stranger to this so in his 40s he became interested in early hip hop, dub and reggae. he recorded an album with 10 tracks playing around with some instrumental works he had found and yet created another unique record. THIS GUY IS A LEGEND!

عندما يبلغ الموسيقيون عمرا متقدما بعض الشيء في غالب الأحيان يتخدون توجهات موسيقية جديدة. فضول لم يكن بالغريب عن هذه العادة حيث بدأ يهتم بثقافة الهيب هوب و الريغي عند بلوغه الأربعين. قام هذا الأخير بتسجيل ألبوم يتكون من 10 مقاطع مستعملا تسجيلات موسيقية كان قد وجدها من قبل و صنع منها تسجيل جديدا و نادر من نوعه. هذا الرجل بمثابة أسطورة. 
نشكر مهدي الذي باع لنا النسخة الوحيدة المعروفة من هذا الألبوم. سوف نقوم بإعادة إحيائها قريبا في هذه السنة.

Fadoul aka Bob Fadoul - Fi Jamique (Morocco, 1980s)

In Hour 2 we hand over to Berlin-based composer, producer and sound designer, Ben Lukas Boysen who released his album 'Spell' in June, mixed and mastered by friend and fellow Erased Tapes artist Nils Frahm. Music featured includes Pink Floyd, Kurt Stenzel, Demdike Stare, Hans Otte, Nina Simone and Ryoji Ikeda, and he had this to say about his mix;

"Some all time influential songs and hidden gems that contrast and complement each other. I love these songs for their simplicity and ample, devotional focus on composition and sound. There is ravishing beauty in the absence of decoration."
