Noir Cast #30 - Ek-Sistenz

Moving between faster and slower paced rhythms, Ek-sistenz has always set himself the goal of mixing various kinds of dance music throughout his sets. For the 13th edition of our SAW THE R podcast series, he has done exactly that.

“Forget genres. Let the drums talk.” That was the idea behind this mix. It’s an invitation to enter Techno City and stroll through an ever-changing landscape of sound waves. A place where alternating drum patterns guide your every step and enchanting melodies echo through the air. Lose yourself in the rhythm and embark on an unpredictable and mesmerizing journey.

dxrvo invites MARRGIAN & Ek-sistenz 

This 4h long hybrid set was recorded on August 3rd 2024 in Magdeburg (@geheimclub) It marks the first time the trio played a hybrid set in a club atmosphere and a big step toward their goal of integrating more and more live elements in the future. The setup consisted of the Moog DFAM and Mother-32 as well as a Roland Tr-8s drum machine, all layered on top of two CDJs using a Xone:96.  For this performance, the artists intentionally prepared as little as possible with the goal of creating a mix that truly represents the emotions and the connection to the dancefloor which they felt throughout the night. As such, most of the live elements that can be heard here were spontaneously jammed in during the performance — some more or less happy accidents included. But can you really have one without the other..? 

The final result: an energetic soundscape filled with lots of eerie, hypnotic synths, rolling percussions and deep baselines, all inspired by ecstatic screams and shouts from the dance floor.

Dancefloor Diaries 02 - MARRGIAN B2B Ek-sistenz (Geheimclub, Magdeburg @Never Stop) [DD02]

This mix was recorded almost a year ago during a spontaneous jam session in March 2024. At the time we were not fully satisfied with the recording due to some minor inaccuracies.

However, after re-listening to it recently, we have now decided to publish it. To us, this is a beautiful realisation of artistic progression. As (digital) DJs we often become too focussed on a kind of mathematical perfection in our sets – thinking that everything must neatly align on a 4/4 grid and 32bar phrases. But in doing so, a mix oftentimes becomes static and lifeless. 

In this improvisation we purposefully break from that idea. Without fear of doing a “mistake” we simply jammed in whatever tracks we felt fitting for the moment. The result is a mesmerising and authentic representation of our approach to techno and a testament to how only our minds can limit our personal artistic expression.

A word from dxrvo : 
"I play slower than usual in this mix. What I really like at the moment is that all the sounds have a lot more space and you can hear the great details of the tracks. 

The mix has a very deep, hypnotic atmosphere. I tried to create an epic, less action-packed beginning, and towards the end the tracks get a bit more energetic and heavier. 

I move between 133-135 bpm. 
I took inspiration from artists like Mike Parker and ORBE and many others. Very hypnotic and deep tracks. Dive into a dark, hypnotic journey. With rolling techno tracks with repetitive sounds and driving, textured sounds. I’ve chosen sounds that invite you to listen differently for a moment and connect with the timeless essence of music. With a certain sombreness and simplicity mixed with bassline, it invites you to savour the richness of the sounds that have shaped us while maintaining a deep intensity."

Cimadevilla, a DJ and producer hailing from Argentina, crafts immersive sonic experiences that merge hypnotic textures, atmospheric layers, and intricate bleeps. His unique approach to rhythm and groove ensures each track maintains its core energy while inviting listeners on a journey of deep introspection. This approach has become his emblem when it comes to performing, leading him to play in various venues across Argentina and share the DJ booth with notable techno figures like Sol Ortega, Jonas Kopp, Zisko, among others.
