This disquiet junto 0473 [part 2 of 3] track, "The Wolf's Baleen," was inspired by the disquiet junto 0472 [part 1 of 3] recording by Chris Ludwidge [https://soundcloud.com/chrisledwidge ] called "No. 34 in Am" [ https://soundcloud.com/chrisledwidge/no-34-in-am-disquiet0472 ].

"I was so overwhelmed by the work by composer, Chris Ludwidge, and his disquiet junto 0472 piece, "No. 34 in Am," that I promptly downloaded it and got to work for this week's Disquiet Junto assignment, 'Placebo Effect."

I had but three hours to compose my piece, "The Wolf's Baleen," and knew I would have to fly into it. What struck me about the floating fragments of Chris' piece was how much it reminded me of some of Brian Eno's piano fragments and treatments on "Ambient #1: Music for Airports"; thus, I set out instinctively to complement Chris' tinklings on the piano: I first learned his piano figures, mimicked them, and based emphatic stylings upon certain notes (namely the B-flat note), adding treatments, such as a rhythmic delay and erratic reverberation changes.

I would write more, but my time has run out at the studio.

Disquiet Junto Project 0473: Placebo Effect
The Assignment: Record the second third of a trio that others will complete.

Step 1: This week’s Disquiet Junto project is the second in a sequence intended to encourage and reward asynchronous collaboration. This week you’ll be adding music to a pre-existing track, which you will source from the previous week’s Junto project (disquiet.com/0472). Note that you aren’t creating a duet — you’re creating the second third of what will eventually be a trio. Keep this in mind. Leave space for what is yet to come.

Step 2: The plan is for you to record a short and original piece of music, on any instrumentation of your choice, as a complement to the pre-existing track. First, however, you must select the piece of music to which you will be adding your own music. There are tracks by 68 musicians in all to choose from, 62 as part of this playlist:

When showering in the morning I mostly listen to Soma FM Deep Space One. Yesterday I heard something interesting and checked the playlist: some guy named Louigi Verona. I found his website and checked his "none-random number generator" https://louigiverona.com/nrng/ which is some kind of insider joke for coders: While other "random number" generators try to give you an unreliable random number (which mostly, maybe never is really random (not only depending on how our universe really works)), his nrng reliably outputs the same, non-random number, in my case: 37. I'm telling you this, because its not important and just a chain of random events which lead to this track.

Anyway: So I took track 37 from the list, "safe", an ambient improv of some kind, in Cmajor, made by https://soundcloud.com/rheinmusic. I wanted to add some sequencing patterns but nothing I made intentionally did work out for me. So I ended up with a sequence from the CA2600 from Cherry Audio (25$ at some Xmas sales, btw my recommendation, a must-have no-brainer (for 2600-non-purists)) and improvised on it. Cm may be a "safe" scale, but the sequence sometimes misses the mark, especially at the beginning … hence the name of the track.

Sorry for the long story. I did not seek perfection and think there is room for example for a drum improvisation with cymbals (or a classic theme thingy).
