TL PREMIERE : Weakmassive - Reaction [DS Recordings]

For the 14th edition of the Hedchef show on Threads Radio, we're joined by reawakened computer system MAC Address, which crashed on one of Saturn's moons almost three decades ago and is currently conducting lunar research and searching for resources to continue its mission. MAC Address began transmitting to earth sometime last year, and we have been picking up its alien electro frequencies since then. MAC Address's transmission this month is a little softer and more considered than usual - Hedchef warms things up for this enigmatic and compelling computer system by going "extra hard" to rebalance the scales.

Threads Radio - Hedchef w/ MAC Address - 14/9/21

We premiere Scottish electronic music royalty, Vince Watson. The now Netherlands based artist returns for his incredible 13th album, which is no mean feat for any musician.

Vince has had a massive year with releases on Get Physical, Tronic, SushiTech, All Day I Dream, his own Everysoul Audio and a host of remixes. 

Vince ends 2021 by presenting his label’s biggest and most adventurous release to date, ‘DnA [re]Sequenced’. This is also accompanied by the [re]Sequenced Sampler which features 3 brand new mixes from the DnA album by Vince himself. The album also features some of electronic music titans including Carl Craig, Claude Young, Jon Dixon, Steve Rachmad, John Beltran, Shawn Rudiman, Stephen Lopkina and Stephen Brown.

After the massive response to Watson’s ‘DnA’ album in 2019, Vince had wanted to carve a different spin on the LP by having some of the tracks remixed by his favourite Detroit ‘flavoured’ artists from the three places that have influenced his music: Scotland, Amsterdam, Detroit. 

We premiere his track ‘First Wave [808 Mix]’. The track is reminiscent of some classic Galaxy 2 Galaxy records from Underground Resistance. A punchy but still funky 808 drum workout locks in the groove while angelic style synth work transcends you to space. Warm and fluffy pads simmer through the track while a powerful baseline runs through your body, the heavenly lead bounces around the track with an entrancing melody. The track is powerful, euphoric and tranquil all at the one time. 

This is proper electronic music.

‘Arcadia' is the next layer in this exciting series by Replicants. This third set of retro electro cuts delves deeper inward - inside the machine. Blinks and beeps, binary sequences, light patterns and primitive code... form and function generated through analog machines... born of diodes, integrated circuits and capacitors... the programs come alive. 

'Twenty Thousand Hurts' and 'Ex' rock the floor in the old school way, prominently referencing the classic proto-electro sound, with Replicants' added layer of technicolor excess. 'Arcadia' turns this sonic space inside out and the game becomes hyper-reality where bit-crushed microchip madness battles shimmering frequency modulation atmospheres for sonic supremacy. 

Replicants explores a unique angle on early breakbeat and rave elements with 'Mood'. Once familiar frantic hits and staple breaks are new again, wielded as a focused mid tempo trip through rolling swells of side-chained atmosphere. 

'Trance Pants' references classic Kraftwerk in its cryptic vocoder hits while grooving in a syncopated bouncy style that loses itself in extreme echo effects and chiptune mayhem. Thick 808 serves as the anchor in a maelstrom of abstract electro. 

Following the approach of the previous EPs in this series, Replicants includes a killer set of bonus alternate mixes in the Bandcamp release package.

Rayndu is a DJ and Cultural Manager from Warsaw, Poland, whose sets heavily rely on storyline and narrative roam across techno and electro while including selections of bass, ghetto and broken sound. Along with her output as a DJ, Rayndu is a member of @femalepressure - a Transnational online database and network and Beats of Solidarity. Through this work, Rayndu looks to work and engage the music community in social issues and create events that support social campaigns and charity.
