Originating from Ringwood, NJ, CHAWKTAW came up in the warehouses and basements of the Tristate area, pushing bass weight and circulating love in the 140 scene. With over a decade under his belt honing his talents as a musician, CHAWKTAW's efforts have resulted in a singular take on dubstep: a sound with an effortless groove, bubbling with energy. 
His influences range from punk to chiptune, hardcore to dub, and everything in between. CHAWKTAW’s compositions are filled with cosmic atmospheres and sentient wobbles, driven by a powerhouse of hefty bottom end. He strives to make listeners smile and, if they feel it, boogie a little.

Maajiigi is a half sound art, half sound system based production. The track starts from minimal ambient swells and sounds of nature. Eventually building into a full dynamic track introducing synths, big drums, bass, and traditional vocals. My inspiration for this track was pulling a story of relevance from my family's experience with the 60s scoop. And how the intergenerational effects and removal from our traditional culture still leaves lingering feelings on so many of us to this day. I aimed to tell a story of a person in the dark removed from their culture and unsure about their place in the world. With dark ominous pads swelling around them, they continue to pray and listen to the sounds of the elements, waiting for a song to guide them into themselves. As the track progresses the beat of the drum and voices of their ancestors begin to sing and guide them, the more they settle into themselves. Now out of the darkness, and fully immersed in the sounds that have brought them into unison. They dance in acceptance of who they are and celebrate reclamation of their culture.

Being a production line of carefully crafted composition with a meticulous production standard, Calyx & Teebee have delivered yet again. And after dominating the Beatport Top 100 with their most recent single ‘A Day That Never Comes / Snakes & Ladders’, they won’t be applying the brakes anytime soon, especially in the lead up to their greatly anticipated second album on the Ram imprint.

Back on vocal duties, Calyx demonstrates the pair’s multi-dimensional approach to beat making. With plucky percussion relaying you through bouncing subs and a drivingly solid bassline, it defines their vast repertoire of style. They’re not scared to dip into unfamiliar territories, with Calyx’s cool vocals sitting on top of lulling guitar rhythms to provide the first part of a diverse and brilliantly crafted record. 

With an album laying just out of reach, each single is bringing us closer and closer to the inevitable. All four tracks prove their still a formidable force to be reckoned with; this LP will only emphasise that fact.
