How I Became Invisible

TORNERÒ' Ma Spaventi makes a slick return to Slow Motion Records with the captivating 'Tornerò'.

Descending arps trickle into 'Tornerò' from the get-go. Vocoded vocals flutter through the masterful mix, weaving into inviting synth swells. Defined drums are firmly felt across this record.

‘Non Ce L’Hai Solo Tu' is a Detroit-infused, fierce floor filler. Layering vocoder motifs with crisp synth stabs make for many a euphoric payoff. The intelligent entwining of electro, early Detroit house and Ma Spaventi’s effortless earworms are plentiful. His gift for haunting, strong melodic intonation is prevalent in ‘Costa Brava.’ A grounded, growling bassline rasps throughout the track, reeling you further and further into this whirlpool of brilliance.

‘Tornerò Reprise’ closes this magnificent EP beautifully. Whispering vocal lines are hauntingly blended with synthesiser noise, keeping in line with the swells across the record and resolving the first edition of ‘Tornerò’ with a more acidic conclusion.

The revered Italian producer, mixing and mastering engineer makes his abundant sonic expertise clear in this enticing LP. Encapsulating his talents, ‘Tornerò’ transports you to Ma Spaventi’s unmatched state of flow. '

“Bembe” (Bembé) comes from the Yoruba people of West Africa. Depending on the context, the term can refer to a kind of drum, an ethnic subgroup, a religious ceremony, a style of dance, or a genre of music. It is also the name of the track we were solicited to premiere from BlackFilter’s forthcoming digital/vinyl release on the delicious Italian label Ragoo Records. Pellegrino Mazzucchi, the mastermind behind the alias, is a percussionist, DJ, and producer based in Modena, Italy, and owner of a singular sonority that encompasses Latin, Afro, and World Music influences. 

The result of the fruitful partnership between Pellegrino and his fellow countryman Daddario gave birth to the stunning “Bembe”, a two-in-one theme that introduces itself complex percussive elements and mellow synth leads for 2.10 of its 4.41 minutes until the “futuristic Jazz with hints of Electro and Disco” aura jumps in and changes the game entirely, “offering the listener a sonic and refreshing sound experience”.

For his second EP, R.2614 continues to deepen his universe with 4 tracks complemented by 2 remixes by Bias and STUPR.

The first track, 'Illusion', plunges us into a dark atmosphere, depicted by a heavy, EBM-influenced rhythm section, aggressive acid synths and ghostly, authoritative vocals. 'Élévation' then comes with a higher tempo as well as a lighter atmosphere: gravity diminishes and we're lifted by the pads and sci-fi synths of this resolutely techno DJ tool. The ascent continues with 'Destination', a track with a steady rhythm and a soaring aura, ideal for filling the dancefloor with love and tenderness. Finally, 'Prédiction' takes us back into an obscure climate, consolidated by a heady bass and distant nightmarish wails, with a mysterious and disturbing prophetic voice.

The first remix, by Bias, offers us a revisited version of 'Élévation', which is marked by lush sound design and a complex rhythmic pattern. To close the EP, STUPR offers us a remix of the same track tinged with UK techno influences, with a consistent breakbeat and rolling bassline.
