Dystopian lucid dreaming… Is this reality? Is this a nightmare? Are we sharing the same dream or are we all part of yours? 

We have no answers. But we do have the perfect soundtrack as Curses’ label Ombra International continue to join the most powerful dots around the world. Somewhere between dark disco and post-punk, it’s the label’s first vinyl release in some time with three debuts and two highlights from the recent Ombra International 17 ‘Destiny’ V/A EP. All things connected, all things unclassifiable, sitting somewhere between Italo, indie, acid house, electro, synthwave and beyond. 

Turkish dynamo Günce Acı takes the lead as she continues to accelerate into the scene with dominance. Her Ombra debut ‘Another Round’ pushes us head first into an acid primordial soup; Trippy, relentless and full of surprises, it’s another sure-fire sign of her exciting rise. 

Elsewhere long-time supporters and good friends of the label Juan MacLean and Hardway Bros also both make their label debuts. The former lays down the deep pulsating sensation ‘Monika’, a sojourn that stretches out over almost 10 minutes of heady, hypnotic bliss. Meanwhile the latter sends us love from his HQ outer space with the industrial strength euphoria bulldozer ‘Early Nineties’. Ploughman beats and cathedral keys, this washes away the bitter aftertaste of lockdown with unfiltered, uncut feels. 

And if that’s not quite enough worldly Ombra substance to fuel your dystopian dreams, then look no further as previous digital-only tracks Skelesys – ‘The Scorpio Sting’ and Jorkes and NIKKNAME – ‘Citizen’ are both revisited on this pivotal release for the label. Timeless music never dates; here’s to another 20 Ombra escapades…

Behind the scenes at "Ohral" Maxie König, Alex Connors & Hardy Heller are without any doubt kind of the driving forces. All three have released within the last 1,5 years several tracks on "Ohral" as well as on other imprints. Their tracks got support from international highly respected artists like "John Digweed", "Steve Bug", "Gorge" and so on; beside of continuously entering specific genre- and dj-charts.

As the name of the EP more or less announces. The 3 tracks are quiet diverse. The opening track "Maxie König - Love Is A Battlefield" is a promising deep electronica masterpiece, a musical journey containing break beats and a dark howling bass, a track to get lost, a track you should have a brief listen to. "Mi Tu" by "Alex Connors & Hardy Heller" is in contrast to that a "4 to the floor" track. An always forward pushing percussion section is garnished here with some fluffy elements like flying around vocals, glittering synth lines. Gab Rhome is known for dreamy and melodic music. His productions have appeared on top labels, including All Day I Dream, Anjunadeep, Kindisch and Last Night on Earth. On this EP, Rhome presents four first-class remixers. Alongside him, Raidho, Marco Tegui, Lee Jones and Canson demonstrate what convincing dance floor hymns sound like. „Motel California“ radiates with pulsating drums and decent vocals. Raidho grasps the various elements perfectly, while Marco Tegui skillfully reduces the tempo and presents a wonderful downtempo track. „Miami Rice“ turns elegantly with percussions and harmonic instruments. Lee Jones transforms the track in his usual manner into a weightless harmony carrier. The perfect closer is delivered by Canson, who leads from melodic beauty to deep calm. The six tracks are full of surprises and rhythmic contour, inviting us to the dance floor without detours.
