I’m very excited to share the second guest to contribute a chapter to my Biophilia mix series.

From sunny Sardinia, deep-sky projects is a co-curator of Out Of Focus — a podcast and event series dedicated to the deeper, more introspective shades of dance music. I’ve really enjoyed their mixes this year; they bring sounds and inspirations from all sorts of different realms.

His mix weaves together organic sounds from faraway worlds, introspective and ethereal soundscapes, and hypnotic rhythms that send your head into a twist. It’s a diverse listen that I keep coming back to. The small ambient interludes between the more beat-driven tracks give the whole thing a mellow, relaxed tone — they reframe the beats and basslines as more than just dancefloor enablers, giving them new purpose within the laid-back flow of the mix.

Biophilia - Chapter 18 (deep-sky objects Mix)

Harknee is a DJ and producer exploring the intersection between techno music and the natural world.

This exploration sees him take elements of nature, from quiet birdsong to large landscapes, and incorporate them into his work, generating a contrast between repetitive rhythms and the unpredictability of the living world. His creations look to evoke the essence of the earth to create sonic landscapes, placing the listener in the midst of flora and fauna.
