tomorrow is my 1035th birthday
talk about a midlife crisis, huh?
i don’t know how i ended up here
but my name is harry teardrop
and i come from planet earth)

last i can remember, it’s a new york city september
another sleepless night, rolling on my side
tossing and turning, itch the skin that’s burning
in the morning i’ll rise and shower
in the mirror, i’ll see the power
of my stupid fucking fingernails drawing blood from my neck again
another reminder of this fleeting life...
i need to take better care of the days i wear!
wouldn’t want to worry mom and dad more than they probably already are
in the corner of my restless eyes i see the stars
and at least find comfort that they’re looking at the same ones
i miss them more than you could ever know
i miss the way plants used to grow,
basking in that summer sun
i miss its golden light when the time is right
6pm i’ll walk with you back to the dorms in winterstorms
i guess home is where the heart is but perhaps the saddest part is
i can’t quite seem to place where either are anymore
i come from inside out shirts and sunflower seeds
mismatched socks and soccer knees
i come from lucy’s at 3am stumbling home with my friends
i can’t help but wonder if i’m already long forgotten in their young, impressionable minds
you’d think i’d be much smarter given the circumstance
but i’m still awful at piano, haven’t learned to dance either
it’s hard to dance with yourself but i’ve gotten pretty good at playing with time
contemplating this funny life of mine.
starbound, i was always striving to be starbound
now i try to bite my tongue, but i can’t take back my words
i guess this is a lesson from the universe
next time i’ll be more careful what i wish for i promise
i miss spring afternoons in between classes,
open-windowed swaying to days by the drums
with the love of my life as far as i knew
didn’t mean to make you blue
still haven’t given up on coming home
counting down the nights in this astrodome.
