Nickodemus is a traveler at heart—a connector of worlds, scenes, and people since the mid-90s. Over his extensive career as a touring DJ and producer, including 5 albums and canonical tunes like “My Swing es Tropical” and “Cleopatra in New York”, he’s helped pave the way for an inimitable mix of global fusion and the heavy beats we yearn for in the club. His music has long thrived on the close relationships and mutual respect of friends he’s built across the continents, felt through the worldly potions he cooks up in the studio, and spanning electronic sounds rooted in Latin, African, and Eastern instrumentation. His latest album, A Long Engagement, serves as a culmination of the inspirations he’s absorbed and remains rooted in his life as native New Yorker and the city’s nostalgic energy. 

Nickodemus’ sound is often focused on the connective tissue of his many live collaborations and the electronic solitude of his studio (or record-filled bubble, as he calls it). Through his much-loved label Wonderwheel Recordings, he’s not only regularly releasing some of the most soul-shaking, eclectic sounds in the biz, but focusing deeply on artist development and creating long-lasting moments that live on far longer than their track length. The music you hear in his releases are filled with expression, reflection, and care; they’re both open-minded and deeply focused, a rarity at time in today’s overcrowded music industry. 

As a remixer, he’s also lent his “Remix Machine” to a wide range of artists including pioneers like Bob Marley and Nina Simone, as well as other like minded genre-welders like Thievery Corporation, Quantic, and Mr. Scruff. Throughout his career he’s also carved an important niche in the live music scene with his beloved Turntables on the Hudson parties, that have popped up everywhere from New York to Cairo.  
 
Currently on tour around Europe & USA, his latest album "Soul and Science" is another portrait into the importance of shared ideas and the dialogue artists can share when they look past language or place of birth. It’s another bass-heavy global party and we’re all invited.

Lloyd Barnes (born June 17th 1944 in Jamaica, W.I.) is known in the music business as “Bullwackie” or “Wackies.” He is a veteran Jamaican musician and founder of the independent record label Wackies music.

Born in Jones Town, Kingston, during his teenager years, Barnes learned tailoring and began making clothes for many of the early Sound System selectors and pioneering artists like; Stranger Cole, Ken Booth, Joe White, Alton Ellis, Peter Tosh and many more.  By the mid 1960’s when the Jamaican music renaissance started, Barnes got involved in the local music business, first as a sound engineer for the legendary Duke Reid’s Treasure Isle studio /label and later, he recorded two songs for Prince Buster. “Wackie” also honed his craft at the famous Studio One recording studio, in Kingston, where artist like Bob Marley and The Wailers, the Maytals and Burning Spear – all had their early recordings. As his love for the music grew, Barnes promoted dance sessions and arranged bus rides as part of his entertainment package.


In later years Barnes migrated to the United States of America where he attended trade school in Manhattan, New York and learned upholstering. He subsequently worked in building construction for a number of years, before the passion of his first love, music and entertainment, drew him back into the music industry. At nights, he would be a DJ, lugging turntables, crates of records, amplifiers and speakers on the subway with friends to do gigs in Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx. This made him the first heavyweight sound system operator in New York City. It was not long after this that Barnes started recording in his home in New York City and making dub plates for his then famous “Bullwackies Disco.”


After a few years of becoming an established sound system operator and a reggae dance promoter, Barnes decided to build the first real reggae studio in New York City, located on 211 Street in the Bronx. However, the flood of people demanding the use of the studio, caused him to move to a larger place at 4731 White Plains Road, where he launch “Wackies House of Music.” 


Wackies House of Music grew to become a successful recording studio and many Jamaicans artists subsequently benefitted from Barnes’ expertise and extensive knowledge of the music business. Barnes, from a family of five, extended his unselfish love and generosity not only to his friends in the music fraternity, but also to his many family members and relatives; but most importantly, to his large number of siblings. Recently, this “sibling loyalty” has prompted Barnes to build a new studio in the Bronx on 225th and White Plains road upstairs the Moodies Record Store. This modern state of the art layout, rebrands the Wackies Label, and reflects Barnes’ continued dreams and vision for his recording empire. 

Although Barnes has not released materials in years, Basic Channel which is a German Label, began the reissuing of his earlier recordings. However, since 2001, he has been recording and going on tours with various reggae musicians. He is now ready to reintroduce the World with the new and improved Wackies Label with innovative marketing and new products. Barnes presently resides in the Wakefield neighborhood in the Bronx, New York City.


In a career spanning thirty years, Phish became one of the most significant live music phenomena of all time. On the basis of word-of-mouth about their performances—with virtually no radio or video support—the band grew from playing club gigs along their native East Coast to drawing 100,000 music fans to remote corners of the country. At every turn, Phish managed to win over newcomers and casual fans as well as maintain the loyalty of their devotees with a singularly broad repertoire, virtuosity, and by making a unique event of each show.

Cabinet is a band with roots firmly planted in the Appalachian tradition. They wear their influences like badges, honoring the canon of roots, bluegrass, country, and folk, weaving these sounds into a patchwork Americana quilt. But this music isn’t romanticizing or rehashing the past. Cabinet makes it mark on today. The steady aim of their harmonies soar straight onto target each time, the soaring vocals giving voice to the story of each song. Their music takes the long way home, treating its listeners like passengers on a ride through scenic back roads. Their live shows are inclusive, celebratory, and community-building. Everyone will want to get on the wagon with Cabinet. Members Pappy Biondo (banjo, vocals), J.P. Biondo (mandolin, vocals), Mickey Coviello (acoustic guitar, vocals), Dylan Skursky (electric bass, double bass), Todd Kopec (fiddle, vocals), and Jami Novak (drums, percussion), all live and love music, and their polished sound belies their young age.

The band‘s latest offering, THIS IS CABINET - SET II, a seven song effort – six originals and a cover of The Byrds’ “Mr. Spaceman” – was recorded in March of 2013 at Stage One in Fairfield, Connecticut, and Club Metronome in Burlington, Vermont. The set is diverse yet cohesive, ranging from the melancholy of “Caroline,” which unfolds into a purposeful jam, to the modern Americana rock of “Heavy Rain,” which closes the album. Along the way, we have the ambling “Doors,” the upbeat and fun “Poor Man’s Blues” -- which would not sound out of place at an Old And In The Way show -- the snaky, reggae-tinged “The Dove” and the instrumental “Susquehanna Breakdown,” another Cabinet contribution to the tried-and-true bluegrass tradition. The group’s take on “Mr. Spaceman” is relatively faithful, but with some Cabinet flair, and offers a glimpse into the band’s myriad influences.

By now, Cabinet’s ability to get a festival crowd dancing and rip tasty instrumental breakdowns is a given. With “Set II,” the band displays its continuing development not only as players, but as songwriters who know how to get to the point – and have some fun going down that road. 

Cabinet formed in 2006, bringing together players from various musical and personal backgrounds. Some of the members were barely old enough to drink legally, but their thirst for older music was unquenchable. Whether its rustic "American Beauty"-era Grateful Dead or old-timey bluegrass, Cabinet has digested it all. But that is not to say that Cabinet recreates older styles. No, this is music that might have its roots in the past, but it is current and vibrant, with a sense of celebrating the now.

Since his earliest self-produced CD-Rs, Philadelphia psych-pop master Kurt Vile has referred to himself as "Philly's Constant Hitmaker"—and while he gave himself that name with a sly wink, he was also nodding toward the songwriting prowess that would result in him becoming one of his home city's most celebrated rock artists. "I’m always thinking about catchy music, even though it’s fried, or sizzled, out," he says. "It's my own version of a classic thing—it's moving forward and backward at the same time." 
On his latest album, (watch my moves), Vile pulls his talents as a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer in unexpected directions—and the result is a vibrant, yet meditative album propelled by Vile's laid-back charm and curious spirit. Every lyric has been chiseled down into an aphorism, every bloom of distorted guitar or murmuring synth helping create that "fried" pop. "It's about songwriting. It's about lyrics. It's about being the master of all domains in the music," he says of his ninth album and first in partnership with a major label, Verve Records.
(watch my moves) comes from a period when Vile, whose touring and recording schedule during the 2010s was seemingly constant, stayed in one place. His mind was always swirling, though, puzzling out pointillistic lyrics, dreaming up spit-shined choruses, and checking in on other dimensions. "My favorite pastime these days is sitting drinking coffee in the morning post-breakfast by the window, reading and listening to Sun Ra, sun shining through the forest trees," says Vile. "In that moment, it's all the traveling I'll ever need. This record encapsulates all that—letting two years roll by and staying in my zone, traveling all the while in my brain, at the piano or in my guitar."
