Having been performing independently for over eight years, Summer Heart is now signed to the renowned Swedish label Icons Creating Evil Art. With an already impressive roster under their belts, the imprint is set to become a welcome home to the frontman’s breezy and lovable direction. Following on from the release of his highly-praised new EP ‘Ambitions’ at the end of last year and his subsequent follow-up cut ‘Oceans’ in recent months, Swedish alt-pop troubadour Summer Heart is back with new EP 'Insecurities', and a high profile remix from fellow Swede Oliver Nelson, who adds his laid back cocktail disco vibe to the single "Wash You Off" to create a perfect summer breeze.

Producer Oliver Nelson may be from Sweden and has released music and remixes on various power houses in the EDM world, but he’s far from the kind of bottle-servicey house music mafioso that those things might imply. He’s got a taste for vintage disco and a subtle sensibility that have helped him rework tracks by Tove Lo, Justin Timberlake, Marina and the Diamonds and even Whitney Houston into rubbery electronic funk that avoid the full-blast sensory overload that a lot of pop-oriented dance music falls into. He has also collaborated with the likes of Kygo, Todd Terry, Zayn, The Kooks and many more, delivering a wildly eclectic array of offerings throughout his career.
Summer Heart explains the meaning of 'Wash You Off':
“Wash You Off is about trying to get rid of a negative past and moving on to a new and hopefully exciting phase in life. Leaving bad habits and old patterns behind is definitely something I struggle with and it feels like I’m stuck from time to time. The only thing that works is just going out for a run, taking a long shower and literally wash the past off.”

Selected by British DJ and vinyl hunter Paul Hillery, new BBE Music compilation ‘We Are The Children Of The Sun’ showcases a shimmering collection of rare folk funk and AOR with a distinctly Balearic feel.

Former tour DJ for Polyphonic Spree and the man behind YouTube channel and mix series ‘Folk Funk & Trippy Troubadours’, Paul Hillery’s lovingly handpicked musical assembly takes in strummed soft rock, blissful beach beats, the soft fizz of electronica, all carried to your ears by a gentle summer breeze.

The music on ‘We Are The Children Of The Sun’ ranges from hazy, long-forgotten early 70s tapes, right through to digital compositions recorded during lockdown in 2020.

“Tune in” says Paul, “and ruminate while consciousness is awoken with transmissions dropping out from the fringes of psyche tranquillity, holding hands with folk-funk that runs deep and hazy, as the bejewelled turquoise waters lap gently at the ocean’s shore.”

Bristol’s premier live tropical bass act share an exclusive taste from their debut EP of wild, unruly cumbia.

Xaman X were born as a support band for the Midnight Ritual club night playing alongside national and international DJs and bands coming to Bristol for truly tropical parties. Thus their agenda was clear from the get go: they needed to warm up the crowd, limb by limb. Since then they’ve gone on to play many of the UK’s biggest festivals including Shambala, Tropical Pressure & Secret Garde Party.

The group’s four members were brought together by a shared love for tropical psychedelia and cumbia, and it’s these sounds that come to the fore on their debut EP.

On “Hoy”, the rhythm shifts up a gear, with flute and percussion sparring with synth and bass in that ageless organic versus electronic instrumental battle. It’s a track that the group describe as a “celebration to life” and a “call to be positive” that invites the listener to “expel the bad and burn fears through singing and dancing”.

Xaman X’s distinctive approach stems from the group’s myriad backgrounds: synths and bass are courtesy of Pablo Villierezz, aka Panther Panther!, a visual artist and musician from Mexico; Spanish-Peruvian paleobiologist Susana Gutarra is responsible for guitar, charango and flute; local Bristolian percussionist Jackson Lapes, known for his work with Worm Disco Club and maracatu collective Afon Sistema; and Spanish singer and artist Marta Zubieta completing the line-up on vocals.

Harvey Sutherland, the Melbourne-born record producer, keyboard player, club DJ and bandleader, made a name amongst his hometown’s electronic underground with a string of cult dance singles. Early 12-inches like ‘Bermuda’ and ‘Priestess’ were records in love with classic soul and disco, but his debut album ‘Boy’ was guided by his obsessional traits and habits, ending up in a place he describes as “Neurotic Funk”. 

Boy has seen widespread acclaim since its release, with Resident Advisor noting “[his] sense of musicality has always been head and shoulders above his peers...his songs are full-blooded and fleshed-out…” His latest material is an exercise in techno minimalism — laser-focused club jams like ‘Hummingbird’ and ‘Nobody Like U’ set the stage for Harvey’s next chapter. 

His machine grooves are fired through a prism of crate-digging influences, from Todd Rundgren to Basic Channel and back again. His distinctive synthesiser tones have graced remixes and production for Disclosure, Khruangbin, Genesis Owusu and BadBadNotGood. A seasoned performer, he’s taken his live band to Glastonbury, dragged his Juno-60 into Berghain and turned the Melbourne Recital Centre into a full-fledged nightclub. Eclectic and groovy, Harvey Sutherland is Neurotic Funk.
