"Cold Crystal Timbres" recalls the immediate past. Hight-tech emotions and synthetic unnaturalness: When sonic hybridities were echoing early 2000s pop.

Once a haven for nerds and enthusiasts, the internet became accessible to many in the early 2010s. Utopias linked to the early internet, such as that of an anonymous and democratic cyberspace, are finally being displaced by a neoliberal Silicon Valley ideology that manifests itself in platforms like Facebook and Amazon.

Rebecca Fuxen and Martin Rovan’s mixtape "Cold Crystal Timbres" pays tribute to the music that emerged from this structural change and aesthetically relates to it. This hybrid music genre, which developed between 2010 and 2015, is characterized by both cold digital sounds and nostalgic pop references. It is embedded in collectives, loose associations, labels, events, or curatorial projects that network primarily through platforms such as SoundCloud and Myspace. Although this music takes place mostly in traditional club settings, it is transnational, digital networking practices that create political activism and solidarity: many collectives establish platforms for DJs, producers, and activists. They reclaim the white- and male-dominated club scene and emphasize the queer context of its genesis and the central role of BPoC within club music.

Listening to the digital, high-resolution sounds of the time one comes to grasp the intersections of digital everyday culture and music as well as the influence that technological developments have on the realities of the artists’ lives.

Tristan - Make It Stick

‘FINTY’ is the debut EP from artist practitioner, producer and DJ JASPER JARVIS. Created during JARVIS’ first year of being open as a trans/non binary person, 'FINTY’ performs as a conjuring of complex moods - a spectrum of reflective moments stemming from personal experiences. JARVIS succeeds in tracing a rich journey through their trans experience, festering moments of panic, hope and anxiety, whilst at the core highlighting marginalised language as the catalyst to re-wiring the precarious nature of being human. 

All profits from the EP sales are to be donated to JARVIS in support of their gender confirming process.

Tristan Douglas returns to Planet Mu with his third Antwood album, the epic ’Delphi’.

Tristan has always used conceptual frameworks to facilitate the writing process and ‘Delphi’ is no exception. This time Tristan worked with his girlfriend Olivia Dreisinger to develop a fictional character: the young lovelorn Delphi. She is represented throughout by a recurring melody, with the album developing the story around her. Deeper than this however, ‘Delphi’ represents the hurdles faced by modern lovers, and those felt personally by Tristan, as the album encompasses a wide range of his emotions. The character ’Delphi’ finds solace in escaping to a place, her namesake, the ancient Greek city. She gets lost in her fantasy, realising it is not as she had idealised.   

“Olivia and I started making the album cover as soon as I knew what direction ‘Delphi’ was headed in. I took objects that had significance to me at the time of production and physically recreated them as “Delphi world” objects, so that the album’s narrative and each track are represented in the cover photo. If you flip the album over, there is a computer rendering by Paulin Rogues of the two landmarks in the ancient city of Delphi - not quite ancient or modern Delphi, somehow real life but also fantastical.” 

Delphi is an album where the real and the fantastic combine, where functional club music meets evocative piano miniatures. “I ended up working on ‘Delphi’ for over a year, where it developed and grew in parallel to my own life. It became story-like, and I embraced the story-like quality of it.” Perhaps the story of ‘Delphi’ is the story of our own lives.

Forever is in multiplicity and mutation. Musician and visual artist Nicola Tirabasso (VISIO), together with Haunter founders Daniele Guerrini and Francesco Birsa Alessandri called for a collective effort in order to celebrate these elements of experience. In opposition to linear notions of time itself. An attempt to let perceptions of future and past bleed together, to establish every moment as an infinite process of consumption and re-generation. A compilation of 33 artists, each contributing in their own peculiar style, adding their own blends to the palette and exposing the lineage of their work. It is precisely to state that the perennial immanence of difference is what constitutes the basis for true unity, that the curators have grouped an utterly diverse cast of contributors, whose output strikes a vastity of moods and textures, and grows out of very distinct intentionalities and backgrounds. Making kin without borders, letting mutual support evolve into a chimeric infinity.
