We are proud to present you the fifth Runwest Records release in this quarter, and the second of ours in the Tech-Funk genre. Once again, it's a collaboration between the two Kaliningrad producers – Freak Da Bass & Pio Beat.

The age the MAYA people dissapeared. The advent of a new human being, soulless, enslaved by their greed, to destroy itself from within his own stupidity, caused them to leave this holy land. The world is getting closer to self-destruction, and the situation leaves no other choice but to leave a Message, calling up for harmony and unification of all human beings.

Everyone will be able to find this Message in our release, and share it with others through their mixes. It's ‘NAGUAL’…

The EP includes 2 powerful remixes from MARTOPETER (FR) and OPTOBOT (UK), as well as one VIP mix from PIO BEAT (RU).

The tracks features a beautiful and dramatic development, which – with a diverse tech-funk and psy tech-funk bass and percussion line – merges into a single dynamic flow of energy, moving towards the incredible breakdown with the 'NAGUAL' message....

FREAK  DA BASS & PIO BEAT – NAGUAL (MARTOPETER REMIX)
Martopeter, a Psy Breaks & Tech Funk producer from France, resident of labels Broken Robot Records(UK), LOT 49(UK), V.I.M. BREAKS(GR), Divergence Records (FR) and much more, brought a true PSY TECH-FUNK sound to the EP with his remix. The pulsating techno bass and dynamic percussion line in the style of Headflux give the track Life and make dancefloors go crazy.

FREAK  DA BASS & PIO BEAT – NAGUAL (OPTOBOT REMIX)
OPTOBOT (UK) doesn’t stop to amaze us with its unique vision of electronic music. The ELECTRO TECH-FUNK remix with elements of New School Breaks cuts the air with its electro bass saws all the way through. That, as well as a powerful kick, is well combined with the dramatic development of the hi-hat line and psy percussion.

FREAK  DA BASS & PIO BEAT – NAGUAL (PIO BEAT VIP MIX)
Pio Beat could not calm down after the original version and decided to recreate it into even more dynamic composition. The whole rhythm section has been rewritten in the VIP remix, the bass became more juicy, the producer has added various percussion and vocal effects. The recognizable breakdown has faced dynamic adjustment and treatment as well.

This Friday just gone I found myself at the Big Beat Reunion in London's lovely but shady Jammm in Brixton, one of my old stomping grounds. I'm always slight wrong-footed by South London ... even though I know it so well, it has an intensity about it that you seldom find North of the river with layer on layer of humanity battling for survival space. As an example, the cab ride back to the hotel afterwards was full of banter & was strangely worth the £22 I was knowingly being *fleeced* for a four mile ride.

To say the gig was an unusual one for me to take would be understatement. I've never before agreed to do an old skool / big beat set, and despite the huge time-drain of 3 full days of preparation, it was actually a great - re-education sifting through the piles of old vinyl. Each banger I unearthed was greeted like a long lost friend, even to the point of 'knowing smiles' accompanying the recall of each bit of vinyl's unique quirks. Trying to mix these rough & ready slices of history together was a whole new ballgame & my plan to journey from 107 - 137 bpm seemed like a good idea in principal, but in practice it was a wild beast of a ride, and one that was hard to tame for much of the time.

Here is the set in all it's rough glory. Thanks to the Noise crew for snagging a most unexpected recording. Grab it quickly - not sure how long I want this one up here for!

This is actually my third collaborative endeavour with Toby, and without a doubt the most successful. Each of the tracks we've made together over the years have been named after the roads we lived on at the time, and this track is no exception.  

We enjoyed making this track immensely, and spent the first few days of the production process playing guitar and getting merry. After two or three days of recording instruments, making sounds and jamming out ideas, I eventually took the project back to my new studio and finished it off a few days later. This track has served me very well as my set opener for some time, and has always set the mood perfectly for whats to come. 

Both Toby and I would love to hear your thoughts on it, so check it out and let us know what you think :)

Dear Friends, I'm totally psyched to be sharing this mix with you.  In the last year I've been (almost) all over the world performing, introducing people to this sound. The response has been overwhelming, and it seems like every new gig I travel to now has an even more electric atmosphere than the last.
