In 2004 Sasa & Alex started to strip down tracks “to the dry bone” with a program called peak, it was very basic but to the point music editing program, quick and easy, it was like doing edits on a reel to reel, cut out all the fluff and reconnect the leftovers. Here are two examples, they sound as harsh as they did when we made them, it was the predecessor to the our first album in 2006 called “Wronger Then Anyone Else” were we edited all our track together in a edit/mix with no fades or blends.

“Bembe” (Bembé) comes from the Yoruba people of West Africa. Depending on the context, the term can refer to a kind of drum, an ethnic subgroup, a religious ceremony, a style of dance, or a genre of music. It is also the name of the track we were solicited to premiere from BlackFilter’s forthcoming digital/vinyl release on the delicious Italian label Ragoo Records. Pellegrino Mazzucchi, the mastermind behind the alias, is a percussionist, DJ, and producer based in Modena, Italy, and owner of a singular sonority that encompasses Latin, Afro, and World Music influences. 

The result of the fruitful partnership between Pellegrino and his fellow countryman Daddario gave birth to the stunning “Bembe”, a two-in-one theme that introduces itself complex percussive elements and mellow synth leads for 2.10 of its 4.41 minutes until the “futuristic Jazz with hints of Electro and Disco” aura jumps in and changes the game entirely, “offering the listener a sonic and refreshing sound experience”.

Hailing from Madches... sorry... Manchester, Sprechen is one of those imprints whose core sonority turns its catalogue into a wealthy source for the ones in search of high-quality space-inspired gems. From Saturn-sunset Balearic deliciousness to Mars-dawn House Music furor, its collection fails to disappoint – and its forthcoming episode is another irrefutable proof: The acclaimed “Edgy Future Discotheque” VA-series reaches its sixth volume and showcases the aforementioned soundscapes. Coyote remixed by Massey, Popsneon, La Guardia De La Luz (with not one but two tracks on board), Mummy's Boy, and minimalArchiv jumped in hard with stunning cuts devoted to triggering zero gravity experiences on the dance floor.

The theme we hand-picked to premiere was cooked with love by maestro Chris Massey, the label honcho himself, who decided to give a go on Coyote's “Cami' De Sa Veleta”, originally released in 2021, and delivered an “emotion-filled blast of synth-tinged and sunshine-drenched amazingness”. Melodic leads, soothing percussive elements, and a roaring synth extravaganza create the perfect opening for the compilation.

PREMIERE612 // Coyote - Cami De Sa Veleta (Massey Remix)

One more time, friends… allow me to introduce you to my 20th and final IMAGINARY RAVE TAPE which is now waiting for you on my Soundcloud. Why “final”? Well, it arrives exactly four years after the first one and I really like the conclusive feeling of round numbers. I think it has run its natural course and it feels like the initial idea - an idealized and concise imagination of the perfect rave born out of Covid lockdown frustration - reached a sweet conclusion. 

These mixes have been a personal tribute to the unifying power of the dancefloor - out of my bedroom into the world. I think I’ve said everything I wanted to say with these ones. I long for a more real and analogue connection with these dancefloors now so I think it’s nice to say farewell to the series for now. I’m really happy with this final chapter - 100 minutes of sweet Balearic beats and trippy, tropical floorfillers from the past and present. Follow the Bio link to get to it…

DC Promo Tracks: Southbound Sounds "Beacon"

DJ Cat comes through on Scruniversal here as the young label continues to go from strength to strength early in its existence. This time he serves up some re-edits and reworks of old and rare records from Scru's friends' collections. Up first is 'Roots & Culture' which is a languid funk workout with Prince style vocals bring some libidinous vibes up top while sci-fi synths and raw claps and perc all flesh out the groove. 'Possibelle' then cuts loose on a much more laid back and steamy summer vibe with the sort of chords that have you laying back in the park and staring up at a cloudless sky.

Hell Yeah’s next project is to revisit a collection of jazz covers of dance classics. Back To New Roots (Serotonin Fuelled Jazz Covers) was first released in 2011 by 3iO, a band lead by double bassist Manuel Moretti and including Richard Maggioni on piano and Matteo Giordani on drums.
 
This album, however, which originally stated as a joke to challenge the musicians to do something different and flip dance, alternative and chill out hits from Fat Boy Slim, Groove Armada, Chemical Brothers, Royskopp, Underworld, Spiller and DJ Shadow into new forms, proves what playing skills the group had.
 
Now presented on special 180g vinyl and with magical art from Andrea Amaducci for the first time, Back To New Roots (Serotonin Fuelled Jazz Covers) has already got support from the likes of Giles Peterson, Chris Coco and Jon Sa Trinxa. ‘Eple’ has also already proved a big download hit, so this release pays dues to some talented musicians who embraced a crazy idea.
 
Opener ‘Eple’ is all fat bass and wandering keys and oozes an inimitable jazz-funk. ‘Les Nuits’ is a more tender, late night track of sombre chords, and ‘Soul Vibration’ becomes a romantic downtempo classic. ‘Organ Donor’ retains the darkness of the classic original but with a new found jazz energy, and ‘Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love) is a nimble, on your toes gem. ‘Right Here, Right Now’ is flipped into a slowed down and plaintive piece, ‘Born Slippy’ lifts the energy levels with splashes of cymbals and superb live drums and ‘Always’ closes on a tender note with dusty snares and tangs of bass.
 
A new side project from Manuel Moretti may well follow on Hell yeah in the near future, but for now this collection provides plenty of magical moments for a different kind of dance floor.
