We love to see our friends spread their wings and fly far and wide towards distant horizons with a mind filled with ideas, a future teeming with plans and a bag full of records, especially when they are imbued with that mission of taking with them some of what makes our music and their enjoyment so special around here across the world. The guest we are happy to present this week is a long time friend and a steady presence in most of our musical endeavours, be it at the booth or the dancefloor, who now calls the stunning landscapes of the province of Lyon his home but hasn't lost his globetrotting impetus. Part of the collective Furie, Pedro Bertho is the type of selector who can surreptitiously put us all into a frenzy to then take us to calmer places in a matter of just a few tracks, the main trait of the type of steersman to whom we trust our minds and bodies to be taken through states that can be mood altering as well as life changing. Nothing short of what could be expected from a selector so devoted to the art.

No stranger to the Fauve Family, Pedro Bertho @pedro-b-2 has released a vinyl on Fauve Records on the "In Rave We Cave 1st Edition" compilation with a killer percussive track called "TOITOI." This time, we've invited him to showcase his signature DJ skills for a more upbeat mix infused with percussions that only he can master.

The artist has spent part of his life in Brazil. In his native country, he is considered an essential cultural figure. His curiosity about the world that surrounds him led him beyond his "linha de fronteira" (border) and brought him to France. He now lives in Lyon, where he enjoys a peaceful life. There, he produces his new monthly residency at Le Sucre, where he promotes inclusiveness and serene partying with events aimed at women. Alongside the Sheitan Brothers, he conceived FURIE, a project designed to promote cultural exchange between France and Brazil.

Comme chaque premier samedi du mois, Le Sucre est à l’antenne pour présenter un bout de sa programmation.

La première heure est une invitation au cœur de la résidence de Warum avec le duo Dresden composé de Manfredas & Ivan Smagghe. On se donne rendez-vous le 16 mars pour un voyage percussif et électronique aux influences psychédéliques et notes obscures, teinté de post-punk et new wave synthétique. Dès 22:00 Pedro Bertho prend la suite en nous partageant ses dernières trouvailles vinyles, et quelques-unes de ses productions unreleased. Une parfaite mise en bouche de sa release party du 09 mars, à l’occasion de la sortie de son album Mêlé. On y croisera le chemin du groupe Fango Live Band, un projet fusionnant guitare, batterie, basse, et musiques électroniques, et la DJ parisienne IAMBP.

We asked The Reflex a while back if he would consider making a bespoke mixtape for us. At the time he mentioned he was considering a psy-rock theme...we had no idea that this mixtape would coincide with his own 'Rock Edition' release, which has now been released. A fantastic mixtape from a modern day legend...three cheers for The Reflex!

GOURANGA MIXTAPE: The Reflex's Rock Edition Mix

Hailing from the same neighbourhood as Lindstrøm, outside Stavanger in Norway, Bjørn Harald Lund Bø (@bhlb ) has been on the forefront of bringing future beats, funk and world music to Oslo's excellent underground club scene since the early 2000's. He was part of the crew running the little legendary dancing hot spot Nomaden and has been bringing exotic flavours to packed floors for years, with his bi-monthly Tropique Magnifique, now at the best club in Oslo, Revolver.

Acclaimed Ecuadorian musician Nicola Cruz releases the four-track ‘Fuego Nuevo’ EP on Optimo Music Digital Danceforce on 27 March.

Nicola Cruz’s ‘Fuego Nuevo’ EP explores rhythmic forms, inspired by Afro-Cuban percussion, cavernous acoustics and distortion. A dialogue created mainly with a 606 machine as a drum base, following different combinations of ‘claves’ as a tool for temporal organisation in these tracks.

Nicola Cruz says: “Percussion has always been my main voice, so I try to rediscover it every time, by submitting myself to different rituals when composing music. Such as warming up musical ideas as mantras for a while before I take any decision of recording.  In a way, the drums have always represented fire for me, which was the script to follow for this EP.”

It is a reminder to all Africans, to African leaders, to African people to come together to assert ourselves, assert our independence, our freedom from a world that has always tried to subjugate and patronize us, we are unconquerable, independent and we are and always have been an independent people that decides its own goals, its own values, a people that makes its own path, on its own terms and always will be! 

It is a reminder that we are a powerful, mighty continent, and we are more mighty and powerful together. Africa day is not the day that belongs to its leadership and elite, it is the day where the African working class, farmers, the majority gets to connect and imagine and forge a future that is theirs. The Future is now, let us unite today and thrust forth and thrust the world forth into a better place!

Africa Day Motivation Mix - Ethiopian Records

To say we are "excited" to get this phenomenal album by Double Geography out would be a monumental understatement - it has been on rotation here at INVINC HQ pretty much constantly for a couple of months now and still never ceases to amaze and impress.

Double Geography is Duncan Thornley, one half of Weird Weather who have released on Emotional Response, Going Good and their own Whip+Lash imprint, exploring sometimes hypnotic, sometimes abstract experimental tech-tronica.

Double Geography, however, takes us deep into the undergrowth, into the world of plants. With tracks named after a variety of flora the music could loosely be described as laidback ‘balearica'. However, where much of that genre (if it can even be called a genre) has spawned so much insipid, mediocre coffee table ‘lounge music', The Indoor Gardener has retained that crucial element of tripped out psychedelia that transports us just that little bit higher.

The music feels warm, melodic, emotive.....but listen closely and underneath the surface is a complex depth where you'll find a lot more is going on and it gives the whole piece of work an edginess undeniably synthetic in nature. Like an organic, analogue paradise re-imagined through the mind of an artificial intelligence. The atmospheres created being less a hazy "dreaminess" than a dreamlike cinematic soundtrack to a mystical reality.

Technical wizardry is also very much apparent. Thornley's day job as an audio engineer has paid off well here. The unique character of many of the sounds we're hearing seem as rich, complex and diverse as the natural world that inspired their creation. His mastery of the equipment at his fingertips is obvious.

So relax, take a deep breath and take a wander round this botanic paradise - a psychedelic Garden of Eden for the 21st century.
