When we first covered Les Chaos Ambiants, it was clear they weren’t aiming for the usual festival formula. Instead of big stages and brand sponsorships, they’re focused on how electronic music and art can interact with local identity and environmental urgency. For 2025, the festival returns to Sommant, right in the Morvan Regional Natural Park, continuing to build on this concept. There’s still just one stage, no clashes, no sprinting between acts, but now there’s added weight on multidisciplinary art, from Adrien Lamm’s sculptural installations by the lake to workshops exploring endangered species through sound and visual design.

The lineup remains eclectic but united by atmosphere, curated once again by Alfonso Pomeda, who’s also the artistic mind behind Barcelona’s Mostra Festival. The full lineup for 2025 includes ABSIS, Alcachofa, Avsluta, Faery, Fran Campos, Lynne , Merovee, Metshka Pampo, Myles Dillon, Nems-B, Orsu, Owl, Toé, and Sybil. Les Chaos Ambiants seems designed for people who treat listening as an experience in itself, a festival where silence and subtlety can carry as much weight as rhythm or volume. Which brings us naturally to one of this year’s standout additions.

Let’s be honest: some artists play music; others change the room around you. Owl belongs firmly in the second camp. Just a few weeks ago, he opened the infamous “La Cabaña”, the ambient and experimental temple at Perpendicular Festival, with a set steeped entirely in lush, enveloping ambient. It was a lesson in subtle power, transforming a cavernous space into something intimate and weightless. It wasn’t flashy, but it left everyone exhaling like they’d just remembered how to breathe. Owl’s ability to craft this atmosphere without ever sounding forced makes him a perfect fit for Les Chaos Ambiants. Here’s an artist who understands that music in a pine forest doesn’t need to shout. A gentle curtain of crystalline rain falls softly in a wide-open soundscape, washing over the senses like a cleansing breeze. Beneath the hushed rainfall, waves of warm analog synth pads and subtle harmonic textures bloom and dissolve in ebbing swells, each transition guided by the Golden Ratio’s naturally soothing cadence. There’s no beat—only a vast, immersive field of rounded frequencies, delicate overtones, and the faintest shimmer of wind chimes. The spatial mix feels infinite, inviting stillness and introspection as the rain envelops the listener in a cocoon of sonic tranquility.

Sanctuary II – Flowing River
Evoking a sacred river’s slow journey through ancient woods, this piece begins with the pure sound of running water—a gentle current that trickles and eddies from left to right. Silky pads and shimmering harmonics drift in, tracing organic patterns inspired by nature’s geometry. Each swell and fade unfolds at a pace that feels both endless and familiar, helping dissolve boundaries between self and surrounding. River ripples and distant waterbirds weave in and out, while the 3D sound field creates a sense of floating, your consciousness gliding downstream in harmony with the flow.

Sanctuary III – Chimes in the Breeze
Awash in the luminous atmosphere of dawn, faint wind chimes dance lazily in a soft, timeless breeze, suspended above a bed of slowly billowing pads and gentle texture layers. No rhythms intrude; instead, sound events occur with the intuitive timing of sighs and exhalations, shaped by the Golden Ratio to maintain balance without structure. Every chime, overtone, and subtle swell is rendered with microscopic detail for an almost tactile presence—an environment designed to quiet the mind and open space for light and peace.

Sanctuary IV – Rain & Ripples
This track captures the interplay between gentle rainfall and water’s surface, focusing on watery, textural movement. Drops fall in soft patterns, echoing and blending with undulating waves and deep ambient harmonies below. Enveloping pads create a lush warmth, with movement and tonal modulation always slow, always organic. The piece unfolds in waves—sometimes rising into shimmering radiance, then subsiding into deepest warmth—each transition smooth and harmoniously proportioned. It’s a restorative soundbath, perfect for letting tension melt away.

Sanctuary V – Distant Skies
A vast, open sound world: faint rumbles of very distant thunder blend with ethereal wind chimes and cumulonimbus-sized pads that pulse and recede like clouds in slow motion. Textures rise and fade on long, fractal-shaped arcs, the entire space saturated in natural warmth and subtle spatial echoes. There’s no sharpness, only the boundless calm of a sky after rain, inviting both awe and deep rest. This closing track is designed to leave you feeling weightless, cradled by space and sound
