E2 is the second part of a quarterly EP series from German duo Klartraum, with the following two instalments due to follow later this year. The E stands for Enneagram, a model of human personality that allows you to describe or to find out through which lens you see your reality. Author Stephen Wolinsky has written a book on the subject and it is something that permeates the work of Klartraum.
Helmut Ebritsch and Nadja Lind are Klartraum, the duo that has defined many different shades of house & techno music on a number of labels but mainly their own Lucidflow, which has been active since 2009. Here they offer up four more conceptual tracks that follow on perfectly from the first chapter.
The opening track here, ‘Sky Fall’ was created from scratch when Felix Baumgartner jumped from the stratosphere in his famed stunt last year. The club mix version of it is a liquid and funky bit of house that is all off balance and wavy. Warm synths, spacious atmospheric pads and great panning effects all make for a bit of pensive tech that also manages to make you dance.
Next up is ‘Celebration’, the free flowing and beautifully synthetic tech track with loopy percussive sounds, rattling hooks and a slinky sense of groove that makes you want to shake your limbs.
‘Tree of Life’ steps away from the dancefloor to explore slowly unfolding rhythms, lumpy drums and atmospheric pads that all sound like alien life forms floating in deep space. There’s a sense of tension as things unfold which keeps you locked throughout, revelling in the fantastic sound design and sonic invention.
The cinematic mix of ‘Sky Fall’ is a little more tripped out, with its lazy piano notes, buried deep riffs and intricate details all placing you at the centre of the beguiling track.
This fascinating conceptual series continues in fine form, then, and proves Klartraum can do both dancefloor dynamite and cerebral sonic sketches alike.

Giuliano Rodrigues is back with his second solo EP on Lucidflow! A young talent from Brazil who has continuously enthused us with his brilliant minimalistic techno and driving rhythms.  The EP leads off with label boss’ Helmut Ebritsch remix on Unimaginable which lives up to its name - a bouncy number that opens up a whole bag of tricks over its duration. First digging itself into a dark hole with a shuffling rhythm, a cheeky synth lifts the mood before crunchy bass is deployed to snap the floor into step. These elements casually drift together to create a teasing finale that will keep the floor guessing to the last.  Unwavering is a dirty, dark, brooding and spacious track for never ending underground adventures. Constantly building, the warm low end's gentle insistence pushes against the hips while skittering percussion gives momentum to it's majestic pulse.  The marching, mechanical feel of Look At Me with its tight drum programming will get people out of their seats, unaware of what is to come. With the dancing set in motion, intoxicated vocal snippets swarm around the low end to create both a twitchy funk and tripped out effect.   Feeling The Space takes its time to unfold and chooses deep darkness as its motif, appropriate for the darker of the phenomenon; it gradually grows with prominence to a subdued crest before fading as it appeared. Last but not least the title track is the most typical of Lucidflow releases, heavily dub house influenced with sharp and intricate percussion that has a twinkle in its eye.  Each track on the package takes hold of the senses in a different way, twisting them so that time becomes an afterthought. Available 20.6.2016

Storied producer Patrick Chardronnet helms the latest release on Lucidflow with a diverse array of tracks backed by a Klartraum remix. Patrick barely needs an introduction but, for those catching up, his appearances include Bedrock Records, Connaisseur Recordings, Crosstown Rebels and Poker Flat. In essence, it is quite the résumé. 

Relishing the chance to flex some dub muscles across three tracks, 'Dub Of Aces' (lyrics: Aero Manyelo) offers something for everyone. The title track itself is a low key house track, taking things into smoked out territories by having the tempo of its elements. 'Traces' is a main room agitating piece of techno, rolling in like a distant storm before taking absolute command with machine driven precision. Then we are taken home with the downtempo 'Miqio', exercising some choice lofi analogue percussion before smothing the track in layers of resonance and hypnotism. 

Nadja Lind and Helmut Ebritch then step up and demonstrate their many years of production nous on their rework of 'Dub Of Aces'. Returning the favour for Patrick's remix of 'Grinsekatze' from their 2018 album 'Void Universes' their touch on 'Dub Of Aces' is deft, bringing the half time elements up to speed, but introducing percussion that is deliciously human in delivery, with every micro-fraction away from the quantized beat is a delicious morsel for the soul.
