Nocturne 07 August, From Cloud To Cloud - Piano Solo

The incantatory slow movement of Hendrik Hofmeyr's Clarinet Sonata is in ternary form. The A section is based on a widely arched theme announced by the clarinet. The brief middle section (Poco più mosso) is more expressive in character and ends with a canonic cadenza for the two instruments, which leads to an abbreviated recapitulation of the A section, but now with canonic imitation by the piano. In the coda elements of both themes are fused into a new melody, which is again echoed by the piano.

For this project, the process was started in Amsterdam. That means that the core-idea project came from https://soundcloud.com/igor-iofe-1 ! Very enjoyable process because my partner has a great will to create new material and is also an efficient cooperator that accepts different perspectives, readjust and reconstructs details with the final result as our final goal.

About the composition: Here is the first part of the main album's main theme. Beautiful phrasing and the first experimentations that happened in this first one were the reason to get born the other that will follow after this. I wish you a beautiful week!

PIE JESU In memoriam Laura Searle 

Hofmeyr wrote this setting of the words “Dear Lord Jesus, grant them rest”  from the Requiem mass on the day his beloved piano teacher and mentor, Laura Searle, passed away. It was first performed at her funeral.

About Intermezzo D'Anniversaire by Danae Vlasse: This piece is a Theme and Variations on the famous Op118 No2 Intermezzo by  Johannes Brahms. It develops my favorite 8 measure theme from the original work and was specifically composed in the style of Brahms. The second section in this piece is built on specific pitches such that it incorporates a message for the recipient of the commission "Joyeux Anniversaire Karen" ("Happy Birthday Karen").

Winner: MTAC Composers Today 2014 First Place in Composition "Advanced Work" Category.

Winner: Radio Music Awards 2016 "Best Classical Recording" Category.
