For this project, the process was started in Amsterdam. That means that the core-idea project came from https://soundcloud.com/igor-iofe-1 ! Very enjoyable process because my partner has a great will to create new material and is also an efficient cooperator that accepts different perspectives, readjust and reconstructs details with the final result as our final goal.

About the composition: Here is the first part of the main album's main theme. Beautiful phrasing and the first experimentations that happened in this first one were the reason to get born the other that will follow after this. I wish you a beautiful week!

This time for Daigo's rework of 'Seis' (originally written by Hiroko Murakami), he recorded the track through his newly modified DIY preamps and a pair of echo machines.

The space and the timing between each notes are carefully calculated and played while the echoed sounds are generated somewhat unintentionally with the tape flutters, this track gives its listeners a whole new experience and perceptions of the instrument and also gives the glimpse of Daigo's musical world.

Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds set to release his first Hollywood film score.

Ólafur Arnalds’ original motion picture soundtrack for Sam Levinson’s feature film debut ‘Another Happy Day’, starring Ellen Barkin and Demi Moore, will see a worldwide release via UK modern classical label Erased Tapes Records on February 27, 2012.

‘In mid-December 2010 I was on a holiday in China when I received an email from Sam Levinson about the film. We got on the phone at like 4 in the morning Beijing time and ended up talking all through the night, instantly connecting. He told me that they had been listening to my music while making the film, so the film was already very influenced by my music. However, it was not until Ellen Barkin – the beautiful force that she is – had pestered the producers for a week, calling them every day about how I am the right one for this film, that they finally gave in. The only catch was that it had to be done two weeks later, in the first week of January. So I ended up scoring nonstop all throughout Christmas, making my mother mad in the process.’ - Ólafur Arnalds

CONTEXT:

Born in the suburban Icelandic town of Mosfellsbær, a few kilometres outside of Reykjavík, the 24-year old composer has always enjoyed pushing boundaries with both his studio work and his live-shows. Prelude is the first of a series of stand-alone singles that will be released during the first half of 2020 in collaboration with New York-based record label Sonder House. This piece marks a new beginning  on Sergio’s musical adventure —a more personal, thoughtful one— and is accompanied by a series of illustrations created by multidisciplinary designer Ryan Carl exploring topics such as interconnectedness, emptiness, and freedom through the use of simple structures and patterns. The cover art, just like the music, is a journey from beginning to middle to end, everything fading into a greater point of clarity and then fading back out again.
