When vocalist and guitarist Mark Graham played a rough demo of his song, Ship of Fools to composer/multi-instrumentalist Andrew Keeling in the summer of 2018, the idea of the Gong Farmers was suddenly born. Together with a chance visit to an Irish castle, where the activities of the medieval gong farmers was described in detail, the band was now named.

Dorothy Parker’s  heart was definitely in the right place, but having been a satirist and versifier of the 20’s, she wasn't  taken seriously when she entertained more serious subjects in later years. 

This is from a radio show I wrote about  her called “Perfect Rose,” first broadcast in 1989 on KALW in San Francisco.  Original lyric.

My friend Carole Danek was asking for sad songs on Facebook. So I said I would make her one, and this is it. I was inspired by Roads by Portishead, and so I ran with the conceit of their title, and did as they did and centre a Fender Rhodes piano sound in the song and pun on it in the title. I hope she likes it. It's an improvisation. I used Arturia's Stage 73 Rhodes piano, put it into a massive chorus effect from TAL, and then into an autopan effect set to irregular spasms. This then gets thrown into a Spaceship Delay and Valhalla Supermassive reverb cranked nicely.

With the DET Ocha Remix EP, VALE sets the tone for 2020 and continues to raise the bar for cross-genre experimentation and releases.
