Producer, arranger, performer, orchestrator and engineer David Baron's credits include The Lumineers, Shawn Mendes, Four Ten, Sophie Hunger, Meghan Trainor, Lenny Kravitz, Michael Jackson, Peter Murphy, Simone Felice, Melanie De Biasio, Bat For Lashes and Jade Bird. 

David arranged and conducted strings for Shawn Mendes on 'Bad Reputation' from the number 1 album in 65 countries 'Illuminate Deluxe'. He played piano, organ and baritone saxophone on one of the biggest selling singles of all time ('All About That Bass' Meghan Trainor). He performed on The Lumineers #1 Billboard Album 'Cleopatra' and produced and co-wrote both 'Strangers' by fellow Woodstock artist Simone Felice and 'Ninth' with Peter Murphy. David provided synths, programming, production and mixing to 'The Bride' (Bat For Lashes) which was shortlisted for Mercury Music Prize 2016.

More recently he scored a film for The Lumineers called 'Cleopatra's Story'. And is currently scoring Gregory Colbert's follow up to the award winning Ashes & Snow (edited by Oscar winning Pietro Scalia, soundtrack by Jóhann Jóhannsson). Both films are narrated by
Laurence Fishburne.

Woodstock singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and visual artist Simi Stone cannot be contained in a single word or sentence. Simi's alluring presence both in the studio and onstage will fill you with joy and wonder. She attended the New York Conservatory for the Arts - acting, dance and voice, studied classical violin from the age of eight, and started writing music since age nine. Simi has just completed a new album titled “ The Rescue" due out in late spring 2017 with collaborator David Baron. Simi Stone has worked with various artists such as Natalie Merchant, Conor Oberst, David Byrne, filmmaker Gregory Colbert and many more…Simi will be on tour with the New Pornographers this April through June 2017.

Beethoven Hall was build on the Lower East Side around 1860, important to socialist and labour movements before becoming a film studio. In 2016 David recorded much of his album there to be released on the 100 year anniversary of Marxist revolutionary Leon Trotsky's infamous address “You do not want any militarism or any government which is not of any help to the working class, but which is always prepared ready to fire on the working class, and is the enemy of the working class. It is now time that you do away with it once and forever.”

Later in the 20th Century it became home to film studio Mother's Sound Stages where tonnes of tv and film were shot including fight scenes from Raging Bull and several episodes of The Honeymooners.

My version of 'Running Up That Hill' is inspired by George Martin's arrangement of The Beatles 'Eleanor Rigby'. 
'Running Up That Hill' has one of the most meaningful lyrics: “There’s so much hate for the ones we love”. It is a stark reality for many who are in troubled relationships. We just do not understand each other. The bittersweet plea to God to swap places is perfectly sung by Donna Lewis. The string quintet, modular synthesizers, and vocals morph between sweet and strident, sonorous and dissonant. There is never a true resolution, only a musical ladder that is climbed without ever reaching the top. You can see the clouds - but you can not touch them. The wish can not be granted musically or otherwise. It is in this yearning that a truth is revealed by Kate Bush - it is up to us to try to understand each other.

I’ve been a huge Kate Bush fan for years so when David suggested we record a cover of Running Up That Hill with just strings and vocals I was all in!

The powerful lyrics always got me thinking: what if we could swap roles with other people? What if we were to walk in someone else’s shoes? If we could, perhaps we would find a lot more compassion for each other. David and I wanted to give Running Up That Hill a uniqueness that the song deserves. Starting out with a stark piano vocal performance, David then wrote a string and synth arrangement around the vocals to create a beautiful balance of simplicity and complexity.

Fort Mudge Memorial Dump was a band from Walpole, Massachusetts, that started playing by 1969, gathering a good number of fans. They got filed into the “Boston Sound”, among the Ultimate Spinach, the Beacon Street Union, Orpheus, Tangerine Zoo, ecc.

With good technique and better ideas, they recorded a very sought-after LP in which the voice of Caroline Stratton stands out to some Jefferson Airplane affinity.  Guitarist Dean Keady, with his jazzy effects, leads the band.

HAEVN'S follow up single after 'Finding out More'. 
HAEVN was founded by songwriter  Marijn van der Meer & film composer Jorrit Kleijnen, working from their studio in Amsterdam.  Before releasing any material  they teamed up with Tim Bran, the acclaimed producer behind London Grammar and Birdy.  This collaboration resulted in the singles 'Finding out More' and 'Where the Heart is' and immediately attracted the attention of two major car brands who used HAEVN's music in their advertisement campaigns. This massive exposure gave the band a headstart and touring was the next step. Soon Marijn and Jorrit found their musical wings in guitarist Tom Veugen and drummer David Broeders.  In september 2015 HAEVN gave their first live performance. The unique combination of cinematic melodies performed by Marijns warm vocals  has conquered the hearts of many musiclovers across Europe.

Wondem Remixed is a humble compilation of reworkings by some of my colleagues in Los Angeles and the UK. I asked musicians who were already interested or involved in my musical explorations or who lived in a parallel universe. In other words, I didn't force it on a who's who of "remixers" and as a result this body of work has a more organic and personal sense about it. The collection starts with a masterful reimagining by Brainfeeder beat maestro Ras G who has played a couple of shows with us. He took elements from the entire Wondem record and created an Afrikan Space Program classic. Producer and drummer Te'Amir Sweeney plays with the Wondem band and brought his sonic expertise with a crazy ambient remix of Saba. Emerging production collective Stomach Club, whom I met through my good friend and co-producer Carlos Niño one night in Venice, went all-in and vibey on the Somalian-inspired tune Xamar. Carlos himself provided a spirited soundscape featuring tracks from the entire record. International DJ and KCRW.com favorite Jeremy Sole took Lalibela to a new place with his awesome musicality and sensitivity. Prolific trumpeter, Ethio Cali bandleader and arranger Todd Simon did a sublime dub version of one of the more popular tunes on the record Sidet Eskemeche. The compilation is also blessed by an Al Dobson Jr. appearance. He completely flipped Mowa and I am grateful to him. Last but not least are two exceptional perspectives on Merkato Star and Eastern Prayer by our London-based homie Kutmah. 

I am very proud of this Wondem Remixed offering and hope you find some new inspiration for yourself in here.

Hollow Coves

Sames is a Berlin-based deep house artist whose sound consists of a combination of early hip hop inspirations and modern deep house. As a wide-ranging self-taught instrumentalist and songwriter, he aims to create a feeling that is far from what people would expect in deep house. His prior experience in many different genres allows him to approach things in a unique manner and rework his various influences into his music in inspiring fashion.

Paving his own way through the landscape of contemporary electronic music, Sames creates a sound that means to unite people and facilitate the divine connection between their soul and music.

‘No Reason’ ​is a successful exercise in painting pictures with music where Tereza’s angelic voice captures a serene ambience, and the glistening arrangements possess a beguiling aura. The track sends us through dreamy landscapes evoked by minimal instrumentation, with Mason providing subtle touches and a vocal harmony. @teepeeband

Tereza gives her insight: “No Reason’ is a very important song for me. It tells a story about our history where men and women grew apart. We created ridiculous binarities of masculinity and femininity that has been damaging our minds and souls for centuries and we claim that it's natural. We make wonderlands out of each other saying that someone is not able to be or do something because of their gender. I think that the most dangerous phenomenon in the world is when one group calls the other group “The Others” because most of the time it leads to injustice. That is why the message of the song is that we should leave behind the dichotomies. There is no reason to keep them because all genders are splendid.”
