Kat Nzingha - 'Vorphic Skin'

Based in Philadelphia, Kat Nzingha is a multidisciplinary artist that explores experimenting with abstruse textures. By combining their sculptural works with heavy low-end frequencies and celebratory tones they create blissfully cryptic sonic materials that are the extended bodies of modified objects that they fabricate. Revealing the spirit within their sculptural entities in the sonic form of convulsing kicks, metallic percussion, and hyper-processed textures.

After releasing the EP Angeltribe on TT Label in 2020, Kat Nzingha releases their first vinyl 7” record with Toothgrinder Press with only 20 copies for purchase.

Vorphic Skin resonates from the idea of metamorphosis as transformation, and mutation as a modification. They activate the deconstruction of the internal human body and its process through industrial sonic textures.

This is not me. I am not a soldier in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, wearing my father's wartime uniform, on a laptop in a basement somewhere. I am an experimental producer.

This is not me. I did not produce these wonders of soundwave, I did not mix the remix and master the masterpiece. I am a soldier in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, wearing my father's uniform.

But a heart is a heart and there are eleven hearts here and they are S280F and Grischa Lichtenberger and Angelo Harmsworth and Galen Tipton and sv1 and trngs and Sara Persico and Hwoaranng and Ludwig Wandinger and Ross Alexander and John Object. I am a file on their drives and they are the song in my heart.

The idea for a John Object compilation would seem obvious to some, as I really do know some of the greatest Ableton Live users to ever stumble upon this plane. I never had the heart to ask!

Ludwig Wandinger and Ross Alexander are two of my friends from Berlin, and they are, to date, the only people that made it their business to bring me to play in that blessed city. I played at 8MM Bar both times (that place is fucking sweet) at Salon Oblique events. Now, at this war, in what I can only describe as a gesture of love and tender caring, they called upon the geniuses of today to work on my work and provided me with an album where there could not be one. This is a remix compilation that I found out about only when it was already release-ready.

I really only could take one night off, walked to the nearest village, and my dear friend Andrii, a soldier himself, brought me my camera, and I titled the compilation in blood. Then for a month I worked on a .pdf booklet for the digital edition, that, really, tells the whole story.

I think this is probably the wildest, most advanced music ever to be released by a soldier in active service.

I can't adequately express the crushing magnitude of tenderness, love and gratitude that I feel towards every person involved.

This all happened only because Ross brought me to Berlin for Salon Oblique at 8MM Bar www.salonoblique.net, and then Ludwig brought me to Berlin to record with him and play at Salon Oblique again, and then because they cared about me, and because my friend Andrii brought me the camera and helped me find the right way to call this.

So much never happened, and so much never will, because of Russians and their deep-seated hatred of me, of everyone I love, and everyone Ukrainian. I am still at war and I am still under threat of violent death every day. Many people I knew and served with have already been murdered by Russians. I am just lucky.

We're thrilled to welcome Eora's very own Winged Mantis Emerald Dream Machine to round out our Dyad SOFT.spot chapter. WMEDM is the collaborative project of friends and artists Obelisk @obelisksydney and Index @index-exe. Obelisk is a producer whose work focuses on the interaction between heavy laptop music and jungle/breakcore influences, mediated by a taste for raw aggressiveness and emotional grandeur expressed on his debut release “Meta Bliss” on Italian netlabel paynomindtous, as well as tracks on Steeplejack, Deep Scan and Meganesia. Index is a DJ and curator at Soft Centre, whose sets oscillate between high-intensity rave music & sonic niches that she has sourced from the depths of the internet. Alongside co-organising the DIY rave series Nexus in so-called Sydney, Index and Obelisk are late night presenters whose shows are back 2 back every Thursday on FBi Radio - post-genre ‘internet music’ show Deep Web and metal and heavy electronic music show Mithril respectively.

"Memory Music" is the debut EP from Danish composer and sound artist David Engelbrecht, aka Dudde, coming out in full on April 24th on katharsis. Crafted over several years through the careful gathering and processing of sonic fragments, the release captures the emotional weight and wonder of sound as memory. Each track is a small time machine, inviting listeners to drift between past and present - those moments when a single sound unlocks a flood of forgotten feelings, places, and people.

Moving seamlessly between ambient textures and sharp, high-paced drum patterns, Memory Music balances clarity and chaos with a sense of play. Breakbeats collide with nostalgic synth lines, melodic motifs shimmer alongside digital shadows, and echoes of vintage videogames flicker in and out like ghosts. It’s music that remembers and reimagines all at once - where fragments of the past become blueprints for the future.

Petals of Nehan unfolds as a sonic journey where powerful and unpredictable movements of sound intertwine with cultural influences and personal sensibilities.
