most of the tracks of this album date back quite far, some of them close to two decades. they represent visions from perspectives that no longer exist outside of these records. the person that shaped them is no longer here as a present experience, yet each and every image of life is imprinted into the fabric of consciousness, and that imprint will remain as long as this universe continues to exist and maybe beyond.

I don't often take the time to premiere singles, or remixes for that matter, especially from artists previously unknown to me, but there was something that was incredibly catchy in this piece by Damien Tronchot, aka Pavane, which is a rework of the original track by Maxime Dangles, from his album titled Les D​é​livr​é​s, released earlier this year, on February 17th, 2023, via the French Lifeguards imprint. The original was a bit more of an ambient track, although still slightly rhythmic with the synth arpeggios and movement of the melody, capturing "anguish and disillusionment" from a soundtrack composed for the same-named documentary by Thomas Grandremy, profiling bicycle delivery men. I recommend you check out the original Dangles score, and this Pavane mix should get the juices flowing. It's a little more upbeat, a bit more processed, transformed and twisted, reminding me of music by Sascha Ring, aka Apparat, with a little bit of Trentemøller, Jon Hopkins, and Modeselektor in the mix. I suppose that's why I'm happy to kick off this last week of summer with this somewhat slightly nostalgic and yet extremely optimistic piece. It seems that Pavane has only a few singles and EPs on Eumolpe Records, while the original artist, Maxime Dangles, besides the score I mentioned above, has two albums and a handful of EPs on the Paris based Skryptöm Records. This appears to be a techno label, and I'm already enjoying Dangles' hard-banging EPs from 2018.

Ambient Daily - Episode 26 - Dusty Mountains

Throughout history, alchemists have captivated our minds with their quests to turn base materials into gold and seek the philosopher's stone. Their work was shrouded in metaphor and mystery, embodying a desire to understand the universe's hidden truths. Similarly, this collection of sounds endeavors to evoke the essence of that magical process. Each composition is a carefully crafted distillation of emotions, imagery, and ideas, resonating with the transformative powers attributed to the alchemical arts.

In Alchemies, Paul Beaudoin blends orchestral textures with glitch and noise elements, creating a sonic alchemy that mirrors the ancient quest for transformation. These contrasting sound worlds—organic and synthetic, refined and raw—come together in a seamless dialogue, embodying the fusion of disparate materials that the alchemists sought.

The album weaves through an auditory landscape, transporting you to the Fire of Calcination, where raw elements are purified, or the ethereal Black Sun, where shadows and light intertwine. As you listen, imagine the delicate Golden Transmutation—the alchemical transformation of sound and silence into rich tapestries of experience. Postcard 37 comes from anthéne. Also known as one half of North Atlantic Drift, Toronto based Brad Deschamps who has been putting out sublime drones on the likes of Sound in Silence, Assembly Field, Catherdral Transmissions and Polar Seas. On Colour Fields, time seems to stop altogether as fragments of guitar and keyboards meld into a drifting placid mass that shimmers throughout the duration of the entire EP.  Colour Fields has been beautifully mastered by Ian Hawgood.

"In this decade, I visited many places in order to record organic sounds such as, rare bird voices and sounds of waves (I live in the basin area far from sea). There is a river near my house and I often visit there to record, or merely walk. When I recorded in the early morning hours at that riverside for ‘Under the Morning Mist’, the body of water was beautifully wrapped with a dense mist. A gorgeous backdrop and inspiration for this arrangement. 


A park located in the city where I reside, was the inspiration for the arrangement, 'In This Perfect Dream'. The captured sounds of trees, leaves, and the winds.. All beautiful sounds around me that we typically take for granted. I got lost in time, it felt like a perfect dream, hence the title of this arrangement."
