The latest house duo to emerge from the Parisian underground bid us bonjour with this stellar debut on Dialect, fusing retroist 80s leanings with brain mulching techno voodoo. Title track ‘Scandale’ and ‘Lame De Fond’ share the same pulsing sequenced heart, transplanted from Carpenter soundtracks and Italo disco classics and then zapped with a thousand volts of warped, detuned and malfunctioning synthesizer electricity. ‘El Topo’ replaces the bristling sequences with a spiky post punk snarl courtesy of live guitars, bass and organ (a la Suicide no less) but retains the twisted electronics for a woozy half time experiment in dancefloor psychedelia. Essential for fans of Joakim, Ivan Smagghe and early Gesaffelstein productions.

La Femme aux Faux Cils is a song composed by Michel Polnareff and written by Jean-Loup Dabadie in 1968. Annie Girardot was the first one to perform it for the soundtrack of “Erotissimo”.

The artwork for this single is a portrait of Clotilde, the band’s lead singer, shot by the great photographer Christian Geisselmann, on which stylist Cécile Busson embroidered fake eye lashes (“faux-cils”).

Blood Walk [preview]

Chrissy is the house and disco leaning alias of Chrissy Murderbot, a Chicagoan producer, label owner and resident of the legendary midwest club, Smart Bar. For his newest project under this name, he turns in a four track EP for Freerange Records’ first release of 2016. 

Here we premiere the boisterous ‘Presidential Astrologer’, a knowingly large sounding cut of intergalactic disco. Built around a resoundingly thick bassline, Chrissy employs sweeping synth lines and operatic vocals with the humanity filtered out of them to blast the listener way out into the cosmos over its six minute runtime.

We're delighted to have finally secured a premiere from our friends over at Bade Records. Having initially set their stall out with a number of European melodic techno releases, it's interesting to see such deep, gurgling 4/4 now featuring in their output. 

"Point Four" is dark, off-kilter techno at it's purest, and whilst the perseus Traxx remix take the original further down the path of oddity, we'd highly recommend the spaced out "Slix O Six" as the pinnacle of the EP.

Anomalies EP

First Play: Stratowerx - Point Four [Bade Records]

Admittedly we're huge fans of the label, but we'd always (perhaps incorrectly) associated Love Fever Records with a deeper, more housey sound, so when this dropped in the inbox we were very pleasantly suprised. The arpeggiated bassline and "peak time alarm sound"(not entirely sure what it is, but it works)are enough to get even the most reserved person to the front of the booth and potentially to convince them that, as the title suggests, something is indeed burning.

The EP features three other tracks and will be hitting the shelves later this week. It is limited to 500 copies worldwide.

With Halloween looming, it seems fitting that we get to share the goosebump-inducing B2 cut from @intergalactic_gary and Pasiphae's 'Made Of Glass' EP. Set for release on Rotterdam's @biorhythmrecords, ominous doesn't even come close to describing the booming drums that bring the alternative version of 'Second Term' to life. Like the LEDs on a mixing desk built with alien technology, a symphony of discordant electronics dance overhead, swirling into one another in a vortex of dark and otherworldly sonics.

Striking first on @metalpositionsmashsdig with 'The House Of Pain' EP, @djoctopus-2 demonstrates the breadth of his multi-tentacular reach with aplomb and self-possession. Certainly the standout cut of this debut instalment, 'Club Damage' is a curious hybrid that fuses a linear 4/4 lilt with acidic bass surges in wavy rave mode and shrill female screams thrown into the furnace to spice things up Dario Argento style. Classic unclassic.

This week’s cheekily titled premier comes from Portugese born, Barcelona established, Berlin located label/events company 30porumalinha. To date, the label has only released one various artists compilation, and the forthcoming V/A comp, Tinder Tapes, is an excellent sophomore release that will surely establish the label as one to watch amidst an ever growing group of newly minted indie labels.

Yuri Shulgin’s (soundcloud) “Friendly Circles” kicks off the EP with an immediately arresting perc sequence perfectly suited for the tracks later progression from deep club tune into a heady exploration of swirling synth solos and uniquely processed FX. The track works perfectly as the A1, letting the listener know that this compilation isn’t for the basic listener.

Overall, Tinder Tapes is an excellent project and one that certainly solidifies 30porumalinha as a forward thinking label willing to release music in a range of styles. The Bolting Bits staff is certainly paying attention, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for this label and for the artists that contributed to this compilation.

If you consider yourself “in the know” on all things house and disco, then you’re no stranger to @PontyMython , the rising Lithuanian talent who’s released incredible projects on various imprints including Dirt Crew Recordings, Fina Records, and Better Listen Records. This time around, he’s produced The Black Magic EP, a brilliant afrocentric project, and debut EP for new London based label, @BurninMusic. Compared to the rest of his catalogue, this EP is much weirder; dark and mysterious, the project sounds like something you’d listen to while slinking around an African marketplace on a rainy day. In it’s entirety, the project showcases Ponty’s wide range of musical influences, advanced sampling abilities, and his knack for creating a cohesive, non-homogenous body of work.

The final track, "Hidden Object", is the perfect finisher to a unique outing, and begins with a deep, downtempo groove laden with african chanting, dull horns, hand drums, and bells. The track sets an instant mood and is fully transportive, a journey from headphones to Africa. A simple bassline resounds underneath swirling, trippy synths, building towards a quick and beautiful vocal section that is the absolute high point of a track that eventually breaks down into it’s original, sultry groove.

Ponty Mython’s Black Magic EP is set for release on April 28th and we expect it to fly off the shelves...don’t sleep, kids.

And in the final days of Great Butane, the country pulled itself asunder. Brother turned on brother, friend on friend, mother on child. In sweltering squash courts, high achievers dashed their racquets against the bright walls, grasping the graphite splinters and driving them, remorseless, into their opponent’s heartless cavities. In airless, air conditioned studios, televisual presenters frothed and roared. Their eye balls foamed and their teeth melted, the viscous gloop rolling down their quivering chins like the tears of a chastised child. The poor plodded on, selling trinkets to strangers, and gossiping bollocks, barely noticing the hordes of ravenous aristocrats that circled, blue blood thrumming with the desire for cheap flesh.
As the asphalt blazed and the tides of techwaste rose, Smagghe & Cross were prepared. They went to the special shed and untethered the special boat. They hoisted the mainsail and set the controls for the heart of Tir Na Nog. They performed the navigation rituals that had been passed from initiate to initiate. They observed the stations of the cross, they consulted the oracle Glowing Palms, they gathered knowledge of the dark arts of sea-faring and piracy from David of The Junto Club, and they dashed caution to the wind.
A burning world at their backs, a universe at their feet, they set sail. They set sail into the night, through the day and beyond. They passed through sleep and dream, then through the crack found at the break of the day. They found themselves in the land that had been foretold. They were on their way... they were on their way...to PARADISO.
