After September 11, 2001, Ken Koshio felt a need to bring some measure of comfort to people affected by the Twin Towers tragedy. He embarked on his Thousand Cranes Tour, which culminated in a concert at Ground Zero on the one-year anniversary. Ken brought 10,000 origami cranes that American people folded on the road from Los Angeles to New York on old Route 66, as prayers for a better, more peaceful world.

In this recording, "Ring of Fire" from the Thousand Cranes Tour album, Hopi To Wa, Ken performs with Native American flute player, Ryon Polequaptewa. The result unites Japanese and Native sounds in meditative harmony.

In February 2018 I travelled to Australia for the first time, where I met a sweet soul, a fellow musical traveller, by the name of Amir Paiss. Amir plays the Persian santur and he was co- founder of the internationally acclaimed Hebrew-Arab world music ensemble SHEVA.
Amir and I played an impromptu evening of music together at a house concert in Byron, then a few days later we decided to meet late at night to make an outdoor recording, taking advantage of the balmy, warm evening. We set up some mics in Amir’s beautiful hillside garden under a starry sky. There was no audience - just the moon, the stillness of the trees and the sounds of the night ...the chirupping of the insects in the background adding another dimension as they seem to weave into the music. We played deep into the night, and from those recordings come these two tracks River of Stars and Isra, which is a Sufi term for the supersensible inter-dimensional travel by night.

Dedication:
Recently a friend of ours, still a teenager, dies under tragic circumstances. This has caused shockwaves through our extended community. His mother is a very dear friend of ours, and she in turn is deeply beloved by many as a wise and compassionate woman. In the midst of this tragedy I'd like to dedicate the piece 'River of Stars' for Arro, Fiona, Aloha and all those in need of some stillness and peace in this dark night of the soul.

About Alyosha Barreiro:
Musician, producer and Mexican sound artist, with more than 26 years of experience. Alyosha graduated in 2001 from Berklee College of Music, Boston, with honors with a double major in Music Synthesis and Music Business. On returning to Mexico he began his solo project "Alyosha Barreiro," combining his original music with acoustic, ethnic and electronic instruments, as well as live multimedia.
In 2009, he created "Prehispánica Electrónica," a show that combines the energy and magic of the ancient Mexican culture with contemporary electronic music inspired by the Mexico of today. Alyosha Barreiro has presented his various projects in important venues in Mexico and internationally, always identifying with his roots while opening to the future with the latest technology, managing to generate a unique and highly innovative style.
