Ambient techno proper with Timnah Sommerfeldt

Nestled in the inner city of Basel, Switzerland, lies one of the more progressive and experimental outposts you can find for techno music: Timnah Sommerfeldt. A bastion for new and intrepid sounds to blur the lines between tempos, beats and space - it’s a platform that allows Timnah - in conjunction with her cohorts Garçon, Agonis, and Varuna - to continually define and redefine the non-existent.

By bringing a deeper, fourth world and atmospheric mix to her sound - the Timnah Sommerfeldt effect is as cerebral as it is rhythmic and immersive. With the gregarious side of techno seemingly always within earshot - it’s artist’s like Timnah Sommerfeldt who posses the ability to embrace entire spectrums of genre, making for a wholly beguiling experience every time.

Aesthetic and vision for the dance floor is unique in our country. @frantios was a resident for many years at the mythical Le Club, in Valencia, and his sound was forged in the time of the "Ruta" and it shows, not only for what he spins, but for how he does it. With Fran, avant-garde and experimentation do not have to be at odds with dancing.

Ronny Pinazza (@ronny_pinazza) tries to convey the feeling of the infinite timelessness of the soul of nature with music in an understandable language. His DJ sets are always driving, ritualistic. Natural sounds and hypnotic melodies allow the listener to reach another state of consciousness. His productions are experimental, unorthodox. Hypnotic rhythms and driving beats characterize his tracks, always filled with natural sounds. The listener is transported in a space that seems to exist between the stars. Deep in his heart he believes in infinity and that time and space are only imaginations. His goal is to express these inner feelings with music, so in 2021 he set out to develop his musical language. Ronny Pinazza has released 2 EPs on Cellar Door records, EP and single on MDivision Group Records. Collaborated on VAs on Indefinite Pitch, Initiate Records, Free Palestine Charity VA, Linee Sonore. London-born & raised DJ, he has been blessing venues worldwide with his spirit and beautiful sessions - which are always a trip! Ario will be our guest at our On Board 10 x Non Series event for Sonar Off in Barcelona at Laut on June 15.

Alex Lauks (@alex_lauks_ofc) is Alejandro Camps, a computer engineer from Barcelona who has long used music as a means of expression beyond coding. With a deep background in hip hop, reggae, disco, and rumba, he started by playing various instruments when he was young before discovering electronic music and switching to the DJ & producing world. As a technology, arts, and animals enthusiast, Alex engages in creative coding and generative art while searching for his sound in production. His DJ sets are tailored to each occasion, whether it's a warm-up, closing set, or podcast, selecting tracks that take listeners on meticulously crafted musical journeys, often showcasing his vinyl collection. Alex runs Tilect (@tilect), a collective that has recently contributed to the Barcelona electronic music scene through various events. He has collaborated with local projects like Mostra and performed at notable venues such as Laut and Red58.

The time has come to reflect on some of the standout performances from this year’s remarkable Mostra Festival. There were some program adjustments, and new stages were added compared to last year. We had more opportunities to enjoy the outdoors around and inside the Castell De Montjuï. Thursday at the Hangar provided a perfect opening, a special day for all of us who cherish ambient, experimental, and obscure music. The Pati stage at the Castell De Montjuïc was a brilliant addition and hit the mark perfectly.

But let's start from the end with the festival's closing set, the grand finale. The Mostra crew meticulously planned the lineup, giving the honor of closing this magical extended weekend to one of their residents - Timnah. Given the high caliber of talent at Mostra, ending the festival on a high note was no simple task. Yet, what we witnessed (and what you will hear in this recording) was a masterful set from a DJ who truly knows her craft.

Following an impressive performance by Rrose, Timnah took the stage with a flawlessly curated techno set. 

In this musical laboratory, Timnah was an alchemist, deftly mixing familiar elements with a slightly more energetic twist than usual. For the first 30 minutes, she kept the base simmering at a low “fire,” allowing the atmosphere to build gradually before adding multiple layers of hypnotic, high-energy elements that electrified the dancefloor. 
The result was an exhilarating and dynamic performance, making it one of the most memorable highlights of this year’s Mostra Festival.

EMC welcomes Joan Gila!

Joan Gila, a vinyl enthusiast, is the curator of @hoc-radio and also manages a small cassette label focused on ambient, avant-garde, and experimental music called @red-edge-label. He is part of the duo @binomi with his friend @slim-jordi.
This DJ set was recorded in Madrid at the Temple event, curated by @machines-desirantes and @javier-camunas, which takes place at @espacio-perpendicular, an intimate venue with exquisite sound. This particular set is Temple 03 featuring @hardcore-chillout, and it's an exercise in mixing and merging an older record from around the 80s with a new one, playing with them in such a way that the listener doesn’t know where they are.

I'm a great lover of sci-fi, moreover if it carries a philosophical message behind. I have come to the conclusion that we are already living one of these futures, and this selection of music reflects it. Music from the future that we are already enjoying today."

For years now, Mario G. Quelart - Lucient (@lucient_music) has been developing and demonstrating his talent and savoir faire behind the decks of the main Spanish clubs and festivals. He always does so under the name Lucient, or almost always, seeing as sometimes he joins Albert Salinas (aka Wooky -  @wooky) to form DJ duo C.E.E. Shepherds, who were present at the 2018 edition of Sónar by Night. Lucient is part of the Lapsus (@lapsus-records) label/festival family and of the Laut club (@laut_barcelona) in Barcelona, where he’s a resident, and where he’s recently put himself to the test by playing two non-stop, 12-hour-long marathon DJ sets. A feat that in itself indicates his vast knowledge of dance music as well as the confidence with which he carries out his trade behind the decks. Mario also directs and presents the radio show “Synesthésiques”, on local internet station dublab.es, has remixed Museless and included a track of his own on the “Barca Is Not Barcelona” compilation, released on Olde Gods’ label, Minor Planets. He’s currently working on his first EP, which will be released sometime in 2020.
