We spoke with photojournalist, Alan Chin, who like us was born and raised in New York City’s Chinatown. Through Alan’s recount, we weave through the channels of time, and to 1989 Tiananmen Square, the intersection of world history that would propel him into his life’s work.

I’m Joyce. I’m Nancy. We’re sisters who grew up in Chinatown New York. We speak Hoisan at home. We spoke Hoisan on the streets. And we thought, why not share Hoisan and see what comes of it. Here’s our experiment and journey through Hoisan. (Fair warning: As bamboo shoots, sometimes we remix Hoisan, with Cantonese, Chinglish, and English, but we make do.)
