This week livwutang takes the reigns for the next instalment of our mix series, packed with moody, bass-heavy cuts that beckon us into the darkest corners of the dance floor. Inspired by the party scene in Seattle, Liv cut her teeth at the Tech Startup parties, citing CCL, My Flower and Kiernan Laveaux as mentors - its unsurprising then, that her sound explores a global spectrum, stretching far beyond genres.

Here we are with a recording from the first (but certainly not last) time Kiernan Laveaux graced the decks at Nowadays back in September of 2021. In it you’ll find so much of what we’ve come to love about the T4T LUV NRG affiliate: swarming percussion, freaky and frenetic psychedelia, otherworldly groove, a captivating sense of narrative, and so much more. 

This mix is a two and a half hour segment from her closing set, after DJ Voices and Azu Tiwaline earlier in the night. Packed to the brim with moments of tension and release, it makes for one truly wild and mesmerizing ride. The home listener is likely to find it just as enchanting as the dancers did.

"For "The Reformer Mix Vol. 1" we wanted to change it up a bit from our other mixes that are either straight forward, or live recorded in the club. We used two Technics 1200's and recorded a longer mix session, then edited everything down, mixed in live overdubs with turntables, added vocoder melodies, and also a proper amount of shout outs. The idea was to present a highly condensed mix that still has the raw live feeling we love from playing records in the club. With more than 30 tracks in about 55 min we're using some of our favourite cuts, moving through our biggest influences from House, Techno, and Electro, mixing all with a solid base in Hip-Hop." -LNS & DJ Sotofett

Xi'an-born and Toronto-based producer, pianist, and DJ Ciel steps up for the next Phonica Mix with a slow building club room warm up. With a selection of deep and chugging bass, house and techno this is a mix that equally see itself lending its ears to the home listener as well as the club dancefloor frequenters. Its this diverse sound that has seen Ciel take the helms of some of the greatest clubs, festivals, radio shows and podcasts as well as releasing solid records on labels like Mister Saturday Night, Peach Discs, Coastal Haze and more her sound is truly solidified through these outputs. We are delighted to have Ciel join us ahead of some of her amazing shows this year like Kala Festival & Multi Multi(Where we will also be hosting a 20 Years Of Phonica Stage). Seattle-based CCL (@ccl-tuf) is a DJ, promoter and curator. They’re a founding member of TUF, a local collective focused on community-building and creating visibility for underrepresented artists in dance music. Known for bold musical choices, CCL blends a caleidoscope of rhythms, usually playing a mixture of deep, immersive breaks, electro, techno and bass music. Ahead of their Unsound Kraków 2019, CCL has prepared an exciting mix full of deep sounds, bookended by experimental Polish music from past and present. Enjoy!

Originating as one of the driving forces behind In Training, a long running queer event series founded in Cleveland Ohio in 2014, she materialized through the rhythms of life & her loved ones that reflect the rustbelt environment she was birthed from. Now a Pittsburgh resident, she continues her lifelong journey of communicating through the sounds of the mother drum.
