En esta nueva entrega de la serie Fun Fun Mix presentamos al dj Jacob Meehan, con este increíble mix grabado en vivo en el Zenner Club de Berlín el día de año nuevo de 2023. Después de mudarse de Chicago a Berlín en 2016, Jacob ha estado produciendo y alentando algunos de los eventos queer más queridos de su ciudad adoptiva, particularmente Buttons @radio-buttons y el Whole Festival. Su experiencia multitudinaria con la producción cultural, (ha sido anfitrión de una radio comunitaria, manager de restaurantes y de una galería de arte contemporáneo, vendedor de discos en una legendaria disquería, director de sesiones de meditación guiada y organizador de fiestas disco en un teatro porno gay), demuestran su atención al detalle para lo experiencial y lo efímero, demostrando que la creatividad está en todas partes. El tiempo de inactividad durante la pandemia le dió a Meehan la oportunidad de sumergirse más en la producción musical; Esperen nuevos lanzamientos de él en este 2023!

For the 39th entry in the Fun Fun Mix series, we present dj Jacob Meehan, delivering this amazing mix recorded live at Zenner Club in Berlin on New Year's Day 2023. After relocating from Chicago to Berlin in 2016, Jacob has instigated some of his adopted city's most beloved queer events, particularly Buttons @radio-buttons and WHOLE Festival. His multitudinous background with cultural production - hosting community radio, managing neighborhood restaurants, operating a contemporary art gallery, selling records at a legendary record shop, leading guided meditation sessions, & throwing disco parties in a gay porn theater - inform his attention to detail for the experiential & ephemeral, proving that creativity is everywhere. The downtime of the pandemic afforded Meehan the opportunity to dive further into music production; expect new releases from him in 2023!

previously available only on the club’s patreon, this is now public for everyone to enjoy. created for Virtually Nowadays at the beginning of the shutdown in April 2020 the movie was created by Jay Ivan as we drove through the empty streets of the NYC area, he filmed with a handheld DSLR and then aligned the audio after editing. 
programming this mix was emotional..i did my best to hopefully help people process positively while enjoying a "dance music mix" during a time of overwhelming uncertainty.

"My aim was to make something that defines where I'm at as an artist and with music today. It's downtempo, sexy, swamp, slick, reflective, pretty, and fun. It was recorded with a Varia RDM20 rotary mixer. Intended to be played late, after a party, or with a lucky person one night. You'll find sounds from South America, the UK, Berlin, France, Jamaica, Switzerland, Ukraine, and many more. 

The past two years have been about discovering new sounds and revisiting some old ones. I was raised in an uncanny Christian group in Savannah, Georgia, that restricted me from a lot in life. One of the only liberating things about that group was my exposure to the music and dance of other cultures. The Guatemalan and Mexican families taught me about salsa, meringue, and bachata. My cousins from North Carolina are black, they showed me house music. The soft nods to my love for these early introductions and moments are in this mix. Blended with the reality of what I hear now." 

NSA (Cameron Allen), a multidisciplinary artist known for his art and DJ work, emerged from coastal Savannah Georgia to arrive in Atlanta where he now resides. The swampy marshland landscape of his early years sets a clear narrative for an eerie and unconventional force laced with an upbringing around latin dance, ghettotech, and electro-house music. Since his first breakthrough release praised by Pitchfork at the age of 19, NSA has spun for queer spearheads such as Deep South and Honcho, co-founded the Hz Like Hell brand and Stroke parties, and is a driving force of the Atlanta underground with his infamous after parties. His penchant for challenging and strange sounds keeps the floor hooked.

For Deep South ATL, I leaned into the idea of sharing a Rose Kourts jam session in its purest form. This is a free-flowing power hour of tracks and records I’ve been digging lately. It’s eclectic and funky, full of energy and crunchy, groovy, acid-heavy sounds that get my heart pumping, feet stomping, and stank face going. Especially as a queer Black Southern gal, it is both a pleasure and an honor for me to contribute to this fantastic series. Y’all better turn it up, enjoy!

Hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, Rose Kourts is a Brooklyn-based DJ, radio host, and organizer, known for blending musical styles and influences with a signature touch and a buoyant energy. Since bursting onto the scene in 2019, she has quickly become a favorite at New York’s most buzzing clubs and parties, electrifying dancefloors and airwaves alike with dynamic selections that reflect deep digging sensibilities and a love and respect for the underground. Rose Kourts' selections bloom into soulful warmth as easily as tense menace, and she wields this versatility with a philosophy of fun that extends to her monthly Lot Radio resident show GEMS, her work as a co-founder of DIY renegade party Sweet Kicks, and as the head of local club night NOW. 

Rose Kourts can regularly be found whipping dancefloors into a sonic frenzy at Brooklyn venues such as BASEMENT, Nowadays, Good Room, Paragon, Bossa Nova Civic Club, Mood Ring, and Public Records. The last year has seen the artist blossom into not only an established mainstay in her local scene, but also a growing presence at clubs and events across and outside of the US. Her travels outside of New York have thrilled dancers and won her a growing international fan base across electronic hubs like Berlin, Amsterdam, London, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, Detroit and beyond.

Jeffrey Sfire’s introduction to the underground dance scene and illegal warehouse parties of Detroit occurred at the tender age of 15. This escape from suburba led him to some of the city’s most talented DJs and musicians, who soon exposed him to a new culture of creative riches. Learning by example, Sfire’s taste and skills as a DJ developed naturally and he soon began playing out at parties, clubs and sleazy gay afterhours, usually entering covertly through back doors or with a fake ID.  A move to Chicago exposed Sfire to a whole other side of dance music history, including "Italo Disco" and genre jumping dj styles of the Hotmix 5 radio djs. He spent afternoons digging through record store crates, meeting retired DJs and developing his musical palette. Having held numerous club residencies, he regularly plays at Cocktail D’amore and Panorama Bar in Berlin, The Carry Nation and Wrecked in New York, Hard French in San Francisco, Honcho events, and his own party Club Toilet and Loosen Up in Detroit, consistently offering a finely-tuned selection of Acid House, Italo Disco, Latin Freestyle, & 90’s NYC House. In 2013 Jeffrey and SOPHIE released the first untitled “Sfire” record on Cocktail d'Amore Music out of Berlin which has become a cult classic. Since then the duo has released 3 more untitled “Sfire” records. He is currently living in Detroit and is one half of the Italo/Electro duo Looky Looky with Ian Clark released on Dark Entries records of San Francisco.

For the 89th entry in the Honcho Podcast Series, we welcome Sis Girl (@sisgirlpgh). Currently based in San Francisco, Sis Girl is building a queer underground sound through a focus on integrating multiple genres. Minimal, house, breaks, and acids inform their sound, bound by bass, streaked with lush textures and psychedelic influences. 

Originally from Pittsburgh, they are also involved with  MESH, an underground party focused on uplifting queer and marginalized voices. After their move to the bay they got involved with Kosmetik which was a weekly party at the infamous Stud bar.
