Everyone loves it when they discover Stevie was doing cosmic disco! This track always knocks me off my feet :-)

Here we are with a recording from the first (but certainly not last) time Kiernan Laveaux graced the decks at Nowadays back in September of 2021. In it you’ll find so much of what we’ve come to love about the T4T LUV NRG affiliate: swarming percussion, freaky and frenetic psychedelia, otherworldly groove, a captivating sense of narrative, and so much more. 

This mix is a two and a half hour segment from her closing set, after DJ Voices and Azu Tiwaline earlier in the night. Packed to the brim with moments of tension and release, it makes for one truly wild and mesmerizing ride. The home listener is likely to find it just as enchanting as the dancers did.

Lawrence S. Williams Jr., better known as L.A. Williams, is an American DJ and producer from Chicago. Founder of the label Chisel, producer of over 27 releases, he has an idiosyncratic take to rhythms, sounds and grooves. 

As a huge fan, both impressed and beguiled, I wanted to shine a light on him. I still am often tripped up trying to blend his tracks while D'Jaying and fit them in a mix soooooooo I had to make this all L.A. mix ᏊˊꈊˋᏊ I spent the last few months collecting nearly all his releases on Discogs to use for the mix; a lot isn't available digitally, and it just felt right. 

I think the best way to hear his unique world and sound is via a tour of his various sides and styles, weaving and roiling, building and bubbling, jacking and smacking.

Ron Like Hell provides eclectic sets venturing into obscure international sounds, Techno, Synth, House, Acid and Disco which are appreciated by some of the most discerning dance floor enthusiasts.

Approaching a dj mix as assemblages, Ron Like Hell aligns sound with emotion, focusing on texture to create psychedelic soundscapes, imaginative spaces for comfort and surprise spectators with an unexpected crafty transition. With 27+ years of making people dance in numerous countries along with years of vinyl shop experience and music promotion, his/their role in the industry is unique and influential. Their latest production, EXALT is their dream come true where Ron selects a personally beloved dj to play solo then close out the night together with a b2b set. EXALT's first guest was Matrixxman in April 2022 at Basement in Ridgewood-Queens, NY. Ron also djs as Wrecked, a music first queer dance party which will turn 12 in March of 2023.

"Created deep from the bottom of my heart respectfully for the queer community in my off kilter multi-genre inclusive style this live in one take mix includes vinyl and cdj media. Mash-ups sit near disco originals, disco sampled 90s house thumpers meet modern deep tech house
pumpers and adjacent to all that, unashamed sassy vocal house is celebrated too. I also featured a few productions by some friends near and far: a trend that I can not shake since creating mixes during the 2020 shutdown. Overall, I wanted this mix to be a version of near
perfect just as when we go out and hear DJs at the club where a perfect blend is a fortunate dream come true and also some skips or light off the beat-mixing reminds us of our beautiful mortality. I feel the intention and soul of the dj is revealed when those moments are noticed. With roots in Pittsburgh and a recent stint in Denver, Paul Fleetwood @fleet412 is both a beacon and a connector within the North American dance music community. A co-founder of Hot Mass with hands in events such as Honcho Campout, Lot Mass, VIA Festival, the Great American Techno Festival, and Humanaut, his DJ sets and productions blend a classic, grounded Midwest techno sensibility with a modern edge, always infused with emotion and sincerity. In 2021, Fleetwood launched his own label, Perimeter Junk, which has already cemented itself as a forerunner in predicting the next wave of dancefloor heaters for kind-hearted weirdos.

"I knew I wanted a mix that featured mostly four-on-the-floor music, upbeat but smooth and not too aggressive. I imagined a much deeper and more emotive mix than what I originally intended but that didn’t make me any less happy with how it turned out.

This was recorded Saturday, October 8th, 2022 at my apartment in Denver, CO. I used two XDJ-700s and a A&H Xone:92 rotary mixer. I compiled a playlist of roughly nine hours of music from which to choose. Experimenting from that list, it took around seven takes to nail a flow that felt right.

The interview questions brought Molly Nilsson’s 'Never Coming Home' to mind so I decided to include it. I couldn't come up with a smarter way other than to place it as an encore so there ya go, my creative apex at work."

Spontaneous Affinity #050: Paul Fleetwood

Campout is an experience that we meticulously curate from start to finish; finding an artist that can connect the dots and close the festival is never an easy task. When asking artists to play, we always encourage them to stay through the festival in its entirety. This is the best way to truly understand what the festival is and what the community brings. 

This brings us to @ciel_dj, who we view as one of the most talented and hardworking DJ/producers in dance music. She's put in the work with her own music but also with her community in Toronto. We fully trusted her to step up and give us all proper send off. From slamming house to funky tech house rollers, Ciel gifted the crowd the energy to make it across the finish line. The ending track, 'Right Here' by SWV was damn near perfection.

Campout Mix Series: Ciel

@livwutang has really arrived on the world stage in the last year. The Seattle-raised, NYC-based artist came up through DIY raves and pirate radio and is now a regular at cult clubs and festivals across North America, as well as being booked in for next year's Dekmantel Selectors. Her sound freely moves between dub, Central and West Africa rhythms and a history of Black American music. All this comes out in her widescreen sets, her curation of the Eto Ano label and her hosting of their show on The Lot Radio.  

The confidence of her selections and ability to shift through moods from the serene to the deep, the energetic to the melodic is evident in this week's mix. It slowly works through the gears from dubbed-out depths to buoyant club rhythms via tribal techno. There is an ever-present mysticism and spirituality that adds an extra layer of intrigue to the body-popping rhythms and it's that which will keep you coming back for more.

Be yourself and do your best to let go of "perfection", it just does not exist. Ride the rhythm not the cue mark. Practice with any two records and/or tracks. Play YOUR beat in the mix, your friendships and with life in general. Less surrender to being salty may not be so cool these days but it will welcome a more patient attitude with yourself and help those that you love.

"I chose to present an energetic mix. Capricorn’s ruler Saturn is the taskmaster. We need a lot of pep and charge to get through the harsh January conditions so we can complete our mission. Saturn is a hard, dominating presence requiring discipline and direction. You need to ask for help from your friends and comfortable familiars to navigate all the obstacles Saturn throws at you. This is where the full moon in Cancer comes in. The full moon during Capricorn is where you need to look for guidance and inspiration to complete all odds and ends before the next new moon. Cancer rules the home, and the environment that nurtures you. programming this mix was emotional..i did my best to hopefully help people process positively while enjoying a "dance music mix" during a time of overwhelming uncertainty.

In September 2022, Clark had the privilege of playing the Grove at Sustain Release, a yearly festival held in upstate New York.
