The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a new track from Overlook & Karim Maas. After an extended hiatus, Standards & Practices returns with their first release of 2020 and the label’s first compilation. Much like the ethos of the imprint, Out of Practice Vol. 1 brings together friends and allies across the electronic music spectrum for a massive release which moves through different genres and sounds while still resembling similar DNA. Today we premiere, “Chalk” , an ultra-heavy breaks track from veteran’s Overlook & Karim Maas which hits deep and razes everything in its path. Also appearing on the compilation are Stave & Grebenstein, VSK, Todd Mattei as well as “7th Recording 29”, an ambient piece which represents Jonathan Krohn’s first recorded collaboration with long-time friend and associate Benjamin Mjolsness since their work together in the group Male. Overall this is a strong release from the label with a unique voice and exception cast of contributors.

"OMIC is a new side-project from Ian McDonnell - better know as electronic music producer and DJ Eomac - exploring the experimental, the unusual, the idiosyncratic side of his output. Inspired by the idea of 'outsider' music and explorative producers like Jim O'Rourke and Arthur Russell, OMIC approaches music without the constraints of genre and style or the 'dancefloor' considerations and conventions that are usually present in Ian's output. Off-key vocal experiments, downtempo electronica, ambient, noise, pop, techno - expect all, any and none of the above.

"This EP is as the title suggest - songs and instrumental tracks expressing themes of hope and frustration. Hope because I am always hopeful for humanity and I believe that our true nature is kind and loving . I remain an optimist even in the face of a bleak global, cultural and political landscape. Frustration because I am frustrated with the way we currently live in human society. The greed, hate, intolerance, inequality, the sheer stupidity of so much of it. Itʼs a great pleasure to provide a mix for Lobster Theremin so I wanted to push my own boundaries out a bit. I put together a core group of tracks that puts my sound, influences and taste in music into better perspective.

If you know me, some tracks might seem obvious for me to pick but for those that donʼt know me, this is a good insight into where my head is at with music these days. Or maybe where itʼs always been...
