Paradise Lost

midi render of a string feature slow second movement.  Dark, inward and mysterious.  For the music nerds, as Debussy opened a new door from a Tristan chord in his famous cakewalk, I show maybe just the crack of a new opening from Chopin's famous E minor prelude.  You may also notice my influence of how Beethoven approaches the slow movement of a Sonata structure.  If you're a nerd like that.

Symphony No 1 - II Largo

midi render (no perc. yet) of a Scherzo 3rd mvmnt.  AA BB C (Trio) A form.  A romping 3/4 hootenanny with a schmaltzy trio to pull at your pizzicato poppers.

Symphony No1 - III Scherzo

midi render (no perc. yet) Neo Romantic like how Stravinsky's Birth of Apollo was Neo Classical.  First movement is mostly a traditional sonata allegro form with a heavy intro with dense harmony introducing some rhythmic and tonal elements to be worked out later in the movement and later in the symphony itself.  An A theme and B theme emerge and go off on a bit of a grand adventure leading to some major climaxes in contrast to the density of the opening.  Here the big moment culminates on a resounding open 5th in the winds and brass only to descend into chaos again.  One brief glimpse of solace is broken by the sudden but inevitable recap of the intro theme that, this time around, takes an unexpected turn to an almost transcendent coda as the heavens open and you are bathed by eternal light.

Symphony No 1 - I Moderato e Pesante

Final movement (MIDI render) bringing everything together for a big firey finish that'll honk all your C majors. Starting with a slow shadowy interlude introducing one of the recurring themes in this movement that leads to kind of a Rondo that each time spins out into a developmental recap of the themes from previous movements.  A moments reflection as the demons are purged where I may have summoned Mahler from the dead (oops) leads to a final recap of the main theme now free of the dreaded flats where echos of Beethoven's first symphony also caused the unintended resurrection of Vienna's second favourite son as well.  Oops again.
