UK native Sephiroth steps in on the 14th official Warfare release. After having gained attention with releases on Renegade Hardware and Kinetik recently, young talent from Bratislava Kutlo is marching in with “The Raid”, a merciless Stomper driven by pan-pot-percussion and earthquake bass lines. TR Tactics do what they do best – disassembling the system in a fury and shifting orderly conditions to a “Chaos State”. Better run for cover when you see “The Swarm” coming up – Body & Soul let loose the Killer Bees. Finally, Netics, newcomers from Belgrade, are making their debut on Mainframe with Dropship, a fierce roller resembling the vibe of late 90s' Drum & Bass. Keep it coming!

Kosen Productions is slowly becoming one of the most defining independent drum & bass labels of 2017. They’ve proven with each of their consecutive releases that they’re able to stand up against more longstanding imprints, providing a fresh selection of talent between every single output. And with the inclusion of Kutlo, a Slovakian born producer who’s beginning his antiquated path to success, they’ve demonstrated that yet again there’s longevity within their reign.

Having already released on the likes of NeurofunkGrid, Renegade Hardware and Let it Roll, Kutlo’s addition to Kosen Production’s back catalogue of meticulously chiselled music comes as no surprise. He’s already toured extensively throughout the European scene, from his home country to the Czech Republic, seeding his music to audiences worldwide which is why fans both new and old will be eagerly awaiting his forthcoming EP on Kosen. Between its ticking, atmospheric introduction, to the guttural undertows of ‘Wasp Nest’, Kutlo ensures that the full EP drags you into his heavyweight production standard and leaves you there to drown.

Beginning the collection of records is ‘Memento’. It sets a precedent, one built through snipping hi-hats and a gradual punch line of intimidating beat patterns. Instantly you know the direction which ‘Memento’ is about throw you into, with a flipped bassline and ominous vocal snippets. Then ‘Exotherm’ dives you head first through elevating pitches of synth and crackling percussive undertows. Your aural nerves are pushed through each steppy drum rhythm before once more you’re made acutely aware of the drop that’s about to envelop you. ‘Out of Place’ clicks into gear with a tell-tale, grimy vocal sifting through its intro and a mix which gradually pulls itself together. Each lyrical melody draws you in deeper, before you’re moved into a steppy gait. And finishing the EP is ‘Wasp Nest’, a track which crackles with an LFO bassline, nodding to its namesake, and cuts deeper with every quickening layer of metallics. Kutlo leaves a lasting impression with ‘Wasp Nest’ and it’s the perfect way to wrap up an intimidating furore into the producer’s world. Kosen show that as ever, their selections are gold-standard, epitomised by each intimidating delivery Kutlo serves up.

The levels that underground labels like Kosen Productions continue to push have ensured the imprint has stayed on the agenda’s forefront. And this remains the same ethos for their next release, returning to the heavily skilled, crashing sounds of Maniatics, three producers who made their name on Kosen and who now help to spearhead its discography. The Sevilla based outfit, having also released on the likes of Titan Records, Eatbrain and Viper, deliver two brand new records which signify why they’re such an imperative part of Kosen. And having started its path in 2011, the French label has thrived within drum & basses independent market, pushing forward both burgeoning newcomers and more heavyweight figures. Whether it’s Signs, The Clamps, Nickbee or Maniatics themselves, Kosen has offered up some of the artists’ most resounding cuts. 

‘I’m Gonna Kill You’ and ‘Enough On My Conscience’ are no different, two undeniably huge records which go to show why Kosen were so hotly tipped after discovering the trio from relative obscurity. The single’s A-side ‘I’m Gonna Kill You’ begins as you’d expect from a Maniatics track. It’s cutting, whilst each slab of unforgiving drum patterns hit harder and harder as they loop between its flying percussion. There’s a hook which grapples with you between every slamming breakdown and this is why you’ll be hearing it across clubs throughout the next few months. The outfit know how to make an impact and this is clear to see through the ruthless dancefloor appeal of ‘I’m Gonna Kill You’. 

Then on the reverse, ‘Enough On My Conscience’ is just as destructive, slicing through with punching stabs of bass and hollowed up drum throws, with each slamming just as hard as the last. You become entangled in the destructive throws of Maniatics, alongside each one of their carefully fashioned layers of engineering, as despite how explosive their style is they’re still meticulous in their creation. Bringing together two huge tracks, Maniatics aren’t hitting the brakes on their career anytime soon. They’re making their way to the top, with Kosen presenting another rung on the ladder and a home for their tearaway pieces of art.

Humanon was born in 2016 when Alex and Adam decided to make electronic music together. Heavily influenced by the likes of Stakka & Skynet, Ed Rush & Optical and Noisia of course, they started to write tracks that range from spaced out deepness to modern age neurofunk. Kaiza (Instinkt, Rune & Kaiza) joined the slovakian brothers-in-law in 2017. The combination of their hotblooded energy and his long-time experiences is fruitful: results are first signings on respected international labels as well as a steady number of live appearances and collabs with known artists. Additionally, Humanon are  part of the Mäsokombinát label.
