A distant car tears the blanketing silence
That hangs thick in the air

We drove in silence
Landscape merged with dark
In the distance I could see
Headlights on a car
Like search lights searching for me
Gaining on us, getting brighter
It put me on edge
The lights arced away into the dark
Swept back again and then
They were gone

Groping in the dark 
Looking for a way out
Where are the keys?
Under the street light?
No! lost out back where there is no light
I search under the street light 
Because it's familiar
I don't find them 
They're not there
