Frenetic, primal, and as raw as it gets, the inaugural release from Barcelona-based label Syndicate of Creatures captures the urban underworld and distills it down to its neon soaked, smog-choked, saw-toothed essence. Across four tracks provided by an international cast of producers, the compilation moves fluidly through various genres of underground electronic music. But be it techno, electro, or drum and bass, each track feels hewn from the same intoxicating darkness — the door-shaped void leading to an abandoned subbasement already vibrating with bass; all you need to do to walk through it is press play.

If Syndicate of Creatures has a message for you with its first release, it’s that the urban jungle is alive, and its loudest creatures are nocturnal.
