Fly By Night kicks off 2022’s proceedings with Departure, the second V/A from the label, as FBN010. Departure reflects the full spectrum of the ever-changing UK music sphere, exploring the depths of leftfield dance music, whilst remaining distinctly club-focused.
FBN010 sees the return of some familiar faces to the label, alongside some exciting fresh faces. Broadly spanning system-rattling, breaks-infused, vocal-stuttering tracks, Departure sets the tone for the year ahead.
All profits raised from FBN010 will go towards UK-based charity Sister Supporter. Sister Supporter is a pro-choice, anti-harassment organisation, who are working towards achieving a national solution to allow those who wish to exercise their legal right to healthcare to do so without interference and judgement. The concept of music designed specifically for Airports was pioneered by Brian Eno in the 70s and has since come to be known generically by the term Ambient. The connotations that this term carries are those particularly associated with the kind of material that Brian Eno produced - familiar tunes arranged and orchestrated in a lightweight and derivative manner. Understandably, this has led most discerning listeners (and most composers) to dismiss entirely the concept of ambient music as an idea worthy of attention.

Airpods are defined as a mood, or an inherent influence: a tint. My intention is to produce original pieces ostensibly (but not exclusively) for these particular headphones with a view to building up a small but versatile catalogue of music suited to a wide variety of moods and atmospheres.

Whereas the extant music labels proceed from the basis of regularizing environments and headphones by blanketing their acoustic and atmospheric idiosyncracies, Music for Airpods is intended to enhance these. Whereas conventional music is designed to strip away all sense of doubt and uncertainty (and thus all genuine interest) , Airpod Music retains these qualities. And whereas their intention is to `brighten' the sound by adding stimulus to it (thus supposedly alleviating the tedium of routine tasks and levelling out the natural ups and downs of the body rhythms) Airpod Music is intended to induce calm, a space to think and Euphoria at the same damn time.
