Demo by Robert Fantinatto (/RUN):  Gate signals from two different clock sources processed through a DEC Computer Lab Logic Trainer from the late 1960's, utilizing a series of flip/flop and Boolean logic gates to trigger envelopes on a Dotcom modular synth.

The Doepfer Trautonium is a modern recreation of an electronic musical instrument invented by Friedrich Trautwein in the thirties in Berlin.  It features the Doepfer A113 Subharmonic Oscillator which is highlighted in this droney demo by Robert Fantinatto of /RUN.  Though not "classic" additive synthesis, the A113 creates up to 4 different harmonics from a square wave...you can hear them cycling in and out through the piece. Doepfer Trautonium Subharmonic Generator Demo

A little modular metal by I Dream of Wires director Robert Fantinatto...this piece was created using a simple Dotcom portable 22 controlled by a Doepfer MAQ16/3 sequencer, triggers processed through a vintage DEC Computer Lab trainer.  Some outboard FX were added during recording, then some post recording digital plug ins were employed to crunch things up along with drum samples (cheated a little there!). Here is a new modular noise improv, created by Jason Amm (Solvent) on his Eurorack system. Watch your speakers - this often loud and ugly. Note - the "storm" begins just after the six minute mark.

Cylonix Cyclebox digital VCO module module (0101 mode) provides the rhythm and modulates (via the Cyclebox's Lag Out) the LPF & HPF of a WMD Micro Hadron Controller dual VCF module. The Cyclebox audio is going through the WMD filter. An LFO modulates the Mix-CV on the WMD, alternating between the LPF & HPF channels. Delay is from a Pittsburgh Analog Delay module through one channel of Intellijel Corgasmastron dual VCF module in HPF mode. A drone is introduced - a Pittsburgh Generator dual VCO module through Intellijel uFold wavefolder module - also fed through the WMD filter. The Generator is modulated by a Livewire Dalek Modulator module. The three elements (Cyclebox rhythm, Pittsburgh delay, Generator/uFold drone) are faded in and out manually via various mixer and attenuator modules.

Here is an example of using a 3 channel sequencer to control three different oscillators allowing for simple chords.  Equipment used:  Dotcom Portable 22, ARP2600, Doepfer MAQ 16/3 sequencer, Korg Monotribe, Korg System 100...performed by Rob Fantinatto of /RUN

The sine wave outputs of three Synthesizers.com oscillators were mixed together while the square wave outputs were sent out of each VCO to modulate a different VCO, all controlling each other.  With careful tuning, you can find some "sweet" spots.  A Doepfer Eurorack modular provided much of the drones...utilizing the very nice Wasp filter module! The Wavetek 132 is a 1980's vintage test oscillator featuring voltage control (not 1V/Octave!), 3 waveforms, and digital and analogue noise generators that create "pseudo random" patterns, selectable via front panel switches.  The extensive controls allow one to "play" the oscillator live.  In this piece, I've used a General Radio sine wave oscillator to modulate the Wavetek, fed the signal to a Synthesizers.com mulit-mode filter, then through a Lexicon reverb.  For the last third of the piece, I swapped the modulation source to a Doepfer MAQ16/3 sequencer.
