Dreadsquad - Poland's staple Reggae Dancehall export


The Dreadsquad project has put Poland on the map for creating dancefloor friendly riddim and bassline madness. From the Superfly Studio in Lodz comes tune after tune combining Jamaican sounds of of Reggae, Dub, Dancehall, Ska and Rocksteady with the modern sounds of Breakbeat, Jungle, Dubstep and Garage.


Dreadsquad was launched during 2001 and what followed was a flurry of mashups, remixes and Polish Sound Clash victories which gave confidence to turn a passion into a way of life for the man at the controls, Marek Bogdanski. Hundreds of gigs in Poland turned into European tours and now Dreadsquad has toured as far as the USA, Canada, Brazil & India.


Always in demand, Dreadsquad has worked with plenty of top Jamaican and European artists including Ward 21, Tenor Fly, Top Cat, General Levy, U Brown, Milion Stylez, Lady Chann, Tipa Irie, Jah Mason, Perfect Giddimani, Dr Ring Ding…the list goes on.


So far Dreadsquad has released 4 mixtapes, 4 full-length producer albums and a host of vinyl and digital singles which made it into the top of the best DJ shops in Europe and into the playlists of the premier DJs of the world.

The Dreadsquad sound is a worldwide sound taking influence and inspiration from all walks of life. It is glued together by Jamaican Soundsystem culture and modern Bass music culture and is a force to be reckoned with.

New York City's Easy Star Records has produced three of the best-selling and trendsetting reggae albums around - the Easy Star All-Stars' Dub Side of the Moon, Radiodread and Easy Star's Lonely Hearts Dub Band - while building an international brand and roster that has come to signify quality and class.

The independent label has created an impressive body of work that includes those above-mentioned in-house productions, along with progressive recordings from envelope-pushing acts like Protoje, Jesse Royal, John Brown's Body, The Skints, The Black Seeds, Rebelution, Passafire, Backbeat Soundsystem, Gentleman's Dub Club, Cas Haley, New Kingston, The Expanders, Lila Ike, The Late Ones, Marcus Gad, Tommy T, JonQuan and Ticklah; reissues of classic reggae from the vaults of Sugar Minott and Linval Thompson; new music from reggae legends The Meditations and Sister Carol; and collaborations with international reggae stars like Matisyahu,  Michael Rose, U Roy, Luciano, Anthony B, Christofer Martin and Morgan Heritage.

Easy Star has steadily built a scene that extends in many directions, following any path where reggae leads, bringing together young producers and musicians, reggae stars, and even artists outside the genre who have been influenced by Jamaican music, like Citizen Cope, blues musician/musicologist Corey Harris, Janelle Monáe, Jason Mraz and Kelly Clarkson.

The label manages its in-house musical collective/touring band The Easy Star All-Stars, who have played in over 30 countries on 6 continents. Dub Side of the Moon, Radiodread, Lonely Hearts and Thrillah have formed the backbone of a growing franchise of reggae re-inventions of classic albums; the band is at work on the next installment, targeted for 2022.

Easy Star has also developed a strong sense of how to market reggae to both core genre fans and a mass audience, leading to work consulting on marketing for albums such as Gov't Mule's Mighty High. Easy Star's musical director Michael Goldwasser produced albums for Corey Harris and Israeli band Hatikva 6, as well as remixes by Umphrey's McGee, Rebelution, Jason Mraz, Yoko Ono and more, bringing the Easy Star sound further outside the family. And Easy Star has raised its profile as a lifestyle brand with events such as Easy Star Reggae Tuesdays, which was one of the longest-running weekly reggae parties in New York.

Colin Patrick Harper hails from the Bermuda Islands. In the music industry, he is known as the reggae artist Collie Buddz. Buddz was born on August 21, 1984 in New Orleans, Louisiana. After graduating from high school, he attended Full Sail University in Orlando, FL, where he decided to study studio engineering.  Upon graduating from college in 2006, Buddz began looking for work in the recording industry as a performer or producer. One of his first major gigs was working with recording star Shaggy on the single "Mad Mad World" from Shaggy's new album entitled Intoxication, which was release in 2007. That was the same year he released his self-titled debut album with Sony Music. The album was a moderate success, but well-received by critics.  WWE (World Wrestling Enterprises) fans would immediately recognize Buddz's voice from the entrance theme ("SOS") for WWE superstar wrestler Kofi Kingston, which was included on the 2008 compilation WWE The Music, Vol. 8. Over the next year, he would continue making guest appearances on the works of other artists.  It is no small coincidence that his stage name "Buddz" is slang for marijuana. There have been photographs taken of the artist holding bongs and other pot-smoking paraphernalia over the years. Of course, other reggae artist such as Bob Marley have made weed seem an essential part of the reggae lifestyle.  At the end of the decade, Buddz started his own record label called Harper Digital. When not working in the studio, he found himself selling out venue after venue on one of his many exhaustive tours. In 2011, he would finally release his second album entitled Playback. As was the case with the first album, this album was a modest success commercially, but the critics loved his work.  With a couple of albums and a good reputation under his belt, Buddz is a frequent performer at many of the major reggae festivals around the world.

MANNEX was born on 10 July 1980 in Harare, Zimbabwe. 
In 2002, MANNEX formed his first music group, Bootkin Klan. The group was mainly performing in Warren Park and released first album ‘Tsamba’ (Letter) which topped the 100 Chart in 2003. 
The group went on to release another hit in 2004 – ‘Anoti Nyo Ndiani?’ (Who Dares?) which Mad Minnox called the top African rhythm of the year 2003. 
MANNEX went on to join and performed with a live band, a jazz contemporary group from the 70s - The Pied Pipers of the ‘Ruva Rangu’ (My Flower) fame.
In 2005, MANNEX broke his ties with Bootkin Klan & Pied Pipers to do a solo project which resulted in the release, through video, of an urban groove album featuring the hit song titled ‘Munhu Mutema’. , which made waves on TV. 
In 2008, MANNEX was invited to join the Transit Crew as a lead singer, replacing Culture Tee and Emmanuel Frank. In March 2009 MANNEX & Transit Crew released an album titled UNITY which included the “Tsamba Reply”, written and composed by MANNEX.
In May 2009, MANNEX along with other artists from Warren Park established W.A.P.A.K.U.D.A - WarrenPark Arts & Kulture Development Association. The Association has since then held number ofCulture Day Celebrations, fundraising activities and clean up campaigns.
During 2009 – 2010 MANNEX visited and lived in the Czech Republic and Ghana. In Ghana, MANNEX met and collaborated on a number of musical projects with artists such as Samini and Blackrasta and pianist Opoku Mensah which resulted in a song ‘Transformation’. 
In the Czech Republic, MANNEX worked with Krystof Koenigsmark & Petr Metelka (Telka), DJs on Czech’s Radio 1, owners of music project titled SEMTAM. This gave MANNEX an opportunity to promote his music further and also to use a state-of-art recording studio.
In April 2010, MANNEX rejoined the Transit Crew and that year they got shared the stage doing backing vocals for Sizzla Kalonji and collaborating with YasusAfari at HIFA 2010. 
In early 2011 HIFA saw MANNEX again, this time on stage with Czech friends SEMTAM.
2012 – marked a new start for MANNEX when he formed his own band, MANNEX & MoFamilee, a long awaited accomplishment!! The band has been organizing shows all over Harare and plans are afoot to do more shows within Zimbabwe and beyond. This music is a new creation called Zim-Reggae vibration which includes Zimbabwean sounds [mbira, ngoma nehosho] promoting MANNEX and Mofamilee’s vision is to celebrate the African culture and way of life and bring families and their visions together. 
In June 2012 he worked at the MONOLIO Studio on his second 8 track Zim-reggae album Mo Love. 
In January 2013 Mannex visited Czech Republic again and collaborated with SEMTAM on the long awaited album was released in April 2013 and has title Optimists by Choice and Mannex is featuring on all but 1 song. In March 2014 - the new album brought highly acclaimed ANDEL nomination for SEMTAM as the best Ska/reggae project in the Czech Republic.
In November 2014 Mannex rejoined transit crew as the face of the band.
In October mannex solo toured Swaziland perfoming at House on fire festival.
January 2015 released a single with transit crew called my sweet loving.
