“Don’t Wake Up” is the new single from the upcoming album Hypnagogia, capturing the fragile tension between dreaming and awakening. Deep atmospheric pads and drifting synth textures create a hypnotic pull that defines the track’s emotional core. The song unfolds slowly, inviting listeners into a cinematic sonic space suspended between light and shadow. Lyrically, it reflects the desire to remain within the safety of a dream before reality arrives. “Don’t Wake Up” serves as a gateway into the album’s dream-state aesthetics, echoing the essence of hypnagogic drift. The album "Hypnagogia" released on December 15, 2025 on all major streaming platforms.

Don‘t wake up

The Disquiet Junto prompt this week (0728) instructed us to create a melody that slowly loses its notes. 

In thinking about my composition, I imagined that the song was slowly losing its memory, with each retelling of the story of its melody losing a little bit of itself.

As the instructions called for a repeating melody, I tried to mix things up in the layering and percussion to give each repetition its own distinct flavor. Hopefully this lands as the narrative arc that I tried to evoke.

This was the first time I recorded my new Modal Electronics Argon8M wavetable synth, which was a blast to use. A drone/pedal tone provides a sonic foundation through multiple key changes, topped with what I hope is a memorable melody starting on the 2nd degree of each scale and featuring a nice little augmented 5th for tension/color. 

The lead synth line on the Argon is doubled with a software synth with heavy tape delay, which you can hear isolated and distant in the outro once the main lead has lost all of its notes. The drone tone gets a little low-end boost from arpeggiated bursts played on the Moog Minitaur analog bass synth. A combination of electronic drum machine and synthetic acoustic drums provide the frantic beat to round things out.
