"For Juneteenth I wanted to make the mix as black as possible. I know this is technically a day of celebration for African-Americans but any people whose ancestors were a part of the transatlantic slave trade can see how much this day means to many. So I chose to include black music globally. This mix is very me as I love genre-switching, but the theme of highlighting black artists and producers is very present. The power of sound in a strange land when our enslaved ancestors were tragically and violently stolen from their homes was undeniably a survival tactic and very therapeutic. I could even feel the change in my mood before and after recording." - @mistervacation

Safety Trance (@cardopusher) is a new alias from Luis Garban aka Cardospusher, the Venezuelan noise-mangler who has spent 20 years twisting together EBM, acid, hardcore, wave, acid and techno. In the past, this moniker has seen him work alongside Rosalia and Planningtorock on tracks from Arca ́s KiCk series for XL Recording, and earlier in the year he dropped his Noches de Terror EP on Boysnoize Records. It found him exploring new possibilities within the world of reggaeton, always with his own textural twist. 

And that mission continues in this week's podcast which collides stiff, angular rhythms with caustic industrial, acid, rave and trap. It's a strobe-lit selection of head-thrashing electronic music packed with girt and grime. As Garban notches up the tempo things get ever more wild and noisy so that, eventually, you're left completely consumed by the dystopian fuzz. What a thrill.

'I generally get asked random questions about music. The majority of them have pretty much been the same for the last 20 years.

How did you start? What inspires you? What music do you like? What was your best gig?

After years and years of answering the same questions I us usually like to entertain myself by making things up, flowering the truth, and contradicting history. In this instance I have been asked to write about other things that I do outside of music which makes it a little more interesting so, here goes.

I was once a fishmonger. It was a means to an end during my years at University. I learnt a lot and gained a certificate allowing me to practice and open my own fishmongers, something I never followed through obviously. But, I learnt a lot nonetheless. I'm a dab hand with a Dover Sole, notoriously one of the hardest fish to skin and fillet. I learnt the secrets of a night on the booze from Ron Moody, who used to eat several smoked kippers before a night on the booze with his brothers. He always drunk them under the table. I also learnt that staying up all night after our Girls FM parties at Bagleys, going straight to work, and cleaning 200 trout, was a good enough reason to want to be ambitious and pursue DJing as an actual career. So naturally I never became a fishmonger, but I enjoy a good mong. I'll spend a brief moment looking in windows at fish. I can tell you what was fresh and what wasn't. AND, I can fillet a salmon in just under 4 minutes….'
