Mix of the Week: Hotthobo - Night Cream

BEFORE SUNSET: This is a live DJ set from Cafe Del Mar in Ibiza, two hours before the sunset, so it's groovy and slowly winding down to the ambient stuff. It was recorded at the end of May this year, and DJed from the original booth in the old part of the Cafe, where the coffee machine used to be. As you can imagine it was an emotional, rather drunken and extremely beautiful evening, featuring new friends, old favourites, and that legendary Mediterranean light. The sunset hour is coming soon.

Chris Coco has been working as a DJ since the acid house explosion of the late 80s.

He has edited DJ magazine, worked for BBC Radio 1 on the afterhours show The Blue Room. He has made artist albums for Warp and Distinctive Records. He has made compilations for Playboy, Ministry of Sound, EMI Classical and Trojan Records. His music has appeared on many compilations including the big ones, Cafe Del Mar and Hotel Costes. His music has been featured Sex and the City, Nip Tuck, House and many other TV shows.

He currently broadcasts and syndicates a weekly electronic music radio show called Melodica and runs his label, Melodica Recordings, out of his studio/office in London.

His music style has developed from those original house beginnings and draws on those years of experience. His club/festival/party sets are mainly proper house featuring the best of the current releases and a selection of classics with a little slo mo disco and a few eclectic surprises thrown in. His sunset/beach sets are more laid back and eclectic, and are also something special.

In Hour 2 we start warming up for the Olympics in Rio with a Brazilian mix from Kickflip Mike and Luds. They are cofounders of the Berlin based label Box Aus Holz and have also seen releases on Tartelet Records and Money $ex (alongside releases from Max Graef and Glenn Astro), with the Three Turtles EP from Kickflip Mike and Julius Conrad being the most recent. They had this to say about their mix;
"Luds and I recently played in Brazil for the Alter Disco Crew, we went to many record shops and in this mix recorded our favourite digs."

Гая - Песня (Вокализ) (Azerbaijan) : A great influence to us, one of the few bands who mix Azeri folk melodies with a Western funk beat.

Senay - Dalkavuk (Turkey) Whilst more of a disco track, the drums that remind us of a traditional Turkish Davul inspired us.

Calcium - Elle Regarde, Elle Rit (France) The bass on this track influenced a lot of tracks including Tyranny 20, these guys did an amazing soundtrack to Les Idoles."
