‘We Wanna Be There’ came out of some epic life adventures traversing the Steinbeckian Californian hills, the vast Nevada Desert, the dark winters of Berlin and the spiritual expanse of Dartmoor, always returning to hometown London.

Its textures are raw, dynamic and about that innate sense of freedom, the solo kind, that connects us to our true sense of self. It reflects on sexual encounters, bad trips turned good and the unconscious rituals we hold with us from childhood. It is the outcome of years of writing, along with joyful collaboration and come at a moment that launches Becca Lovelace back into our ear canals.

This song is about the raw empowerment I've forged in solitude. A mantra to a survivor, a prayer to a deep sense of self we can sometimes only find through solitude.

Unconscious Rituals

Back in the winter of 2016, I packed up my life and drove across Europe in my Grandad’s old car. A pilgrimage of sorts, to the place where so many artists had been before. I fell in love. I fell in love with the freedom and the commitment to that freedom Berlin holds, the ageless, timeless abandon. I became a night creature, along with all of the other searching souls, losing myself in the dark techno clubs, walking home as the sun came up. This song is a homage to Berlin, with all the gifts it has given to people like me, who have had the luck to walk its streets and find inner parts of themselves they didn’t know existed.

‘We Wanna Be There’ came out of a deep connection with a fellow musician. It speaks of our desire to escape the world, as our bed becomes a spaceship and rockets us into the outer reaches of the universe. It’s about the out of this world feeling you can have with another person, “out where the stars burn”, losing our way “on the other side”.
