@iamsoulnd is joining OFF BEAT with a monthly show dedicated to some of the finest labels and artists in the drum & bass, dubstep and jungle scene. 2 hours. Vinyl only. All About The Music.

Episode #23 is dedicated to Demand Records. A label from Switzerland that unfortunately is no longer active, but the owner Carlos and the roster of artists released some incredible music over the years (2011-2022). I remember being blow away by their debut release DMND001, which had BTK's "Things I Do" on the A side and a killer remix by SpectraSoul on the flip (I still have that tune on the first ever CD that I burned when I started DJing back in 2012, lol. Will get my hands on the 12" one of these days). And that's a thing with Demand - they really loved having remixes on the tracks that they released, which was a pretty cool thing to see/hear. Another thing that I loved about the label was the diversity of the music and roster. They often brought to my attention up and coming producers from all over the world and have been one of the first labels to support some of the big names in their early days such as LSB, BTK, Phase, QZB, M-Zine, Eastcolors, Submarine, RoyGreen & Protone and many more. Rest in peace Ed Optiv.

Lifetime respect goes out to Carlos and the whole Demand crew.

ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC 26.03.25 - Demand Special

G'Day moites!

As the launch of my new record label looms and many things to celebrate in the meantime - including my upcoming gig with the Donny Sub Basics next week for Modern Hypnosis's final dance for a while!

I have been a busy boy the last few months, after the success of the first one - I decided to record Pugcast Vol 2 with 21 brand spanking new tracks, made over the last few months, there is one vinyl only release track and an older ambient joint I made 5 years ago to pad the mix out but it's mostly brand new weaponry. Mostly solo productions, some remixes and some collaborations.

The mix is rough and ready and not overly planned with a few mistakes (I didn't want to overthink it), I am quite happy with how this one came together.

I loved Jungle and DnB since I was a teenager. After a long journey through House and Techno I had a surprising b2b set with the godfather of DnB - Sir Goldie, about 8-9 years ago. We almost didn't played any electronic music that night, but the meeting inspired me to start digging bass music again. As I’m expected to play house and techno on my shows - with such and open format as Upperberry. I saw the chance to show my other passion. There is no deep philosophy behind this mix, just music I dance to, sometimes with hands in the air, sometimes eyes closed.

Muguel D&B are celebrating their 5th birthday on the 24 of May and for the event they are inviting the legends Ed Rush & Optical. For this special occasion the promoters alongside Cause4Concern are doing a DJ contest, so I here's my vinyl mix for the competition. Hopefully if I win I'll get the chance to meet Ben & Matt and get them to sign some of their releases that I bought over the years.

For the mix I picked up some of my favourite rollers and tried to keep things interesting by following my rule to not repeat any artists & labels. :) Special love for that "Fixation" x "Infectious Funk" blend as when I met Icicle some years ago he said that the tune was a little tribute to Ed Rush & Optical. Signed the 12" and wrote on the sleeve "All about Ed & Op. Infection <-> Virus"
