So much fun to have musicians all over the world play together, and this jam includes three of my very favorite guitarists and musicians here on SoundCloud...Tom Adams, Ian Tait and Justin Valente.  These guys can all light up a stage, and graciously came together for this funky collaboration.  If you aren't following them all you should be - you'll be getting fresh tracks almost every day from each.  Tom and Justin are both from the US (Austin and NYC), and Ian hails from Edinburgh, Scotland.   For our Summer Funk Jam here, we started with a very funky internet backing track, allowing everyone to dig in and do their thing.  You'll recognize each of the guys' styles if you've been listening to their galleries, and together it makes for some serious Summer Funk. I was amazed at how quickly Ian Tait took what I gave him and turned out this song.  I sent him the basic blues structures of this song and in 48 hours he had the lyrics, vocals, and guitar all on top of the track.  AMAZING!

Blues For Charlie is a dedication to the lives that were lost recently in Paris and now Copenhagen.  Our hope is that the emotion of the playing here touches people to remind them of the sadness of these horrible acts.  

Three very fine guitarists have joined me in this tribute - Tom Adams, Ian Tait and Kevin McCuistion.   Kevin leads us off and is followed by Tom and then Ian.  Check out and follow their great playing:

We Are Charlie

Blues For Charlie - with Tom Adams, Ian Tait and Kevin McCuistion guitars

Here's another collaboration just packed with funk and great players from around the world.  Represented on this tune are musicians from Germany, Spain, Scotland, France and the US (3).  Pretty sure you will enjoy this one.  It's an original funk fusion tune that lets everyone here stretch it out a bit.  Germany's Mirko Borach (Stringburner) holds down the deep groove on bass, with Barcelona's multi horn player Santi-Caballero Mendez creating the head.  Solos from Mike "Land of Orz" Orzek with a fuzzed out wah guitar, Santi-Caballero smoothing it down on sax, Scotland's finest Ian Tait bringing it back up again with his signature electric funk guitar playing, France's wonderful keyboardist Julien Apelian on a great synth patch, and then New Jersey's fine jazz guitarist Stephan "Pinner" Lipinski bringing it home with his serious Scofield funk guitar style.  Wow.  So much playing here.  Great job guys!

Funk The Blues   -  Stringburner, Land of Orz, Santi-Caballero, Ian Tait, Julien Apelian and Pinner

Came across Fluesy Bun, which Scottish funk rocker Ian Tait released last week.  Really loved it but felt it could use some help from Mirko "Stringburner" Borach on bass, and a bit of organ too.  So Mirko and I finished this one up.  I have no idea what Fluesy Bun means - must be a Scottish term -- but dig the music Ian.   It was quickly suggested to me by Peter Bennborn that Ian was having fun with the term Bluesy Fun, which on deep thought is certainly what Ian was thinking.  But since it was after the fact, I will leave up my ignorance and smile.

Hey :) Got my beloved (and repaired) Strat back and thought I'd give it a little work out so built a simple quick backing track and laid down a few solos :) Quality not great but the guitar was AWESOME!!! :)

Strat Back Blues

Here's Stratosphere, a celebration of the marvelous Scottish guitarist Ian Tait's https://soundcloud.com/ian-tait getting his prized Stratocaster back from the repair shop.  When Ian released this heavy blues rocker earlier today I jumped on it, thinking we could bring up the intensity a little more with some heavier bass and synth work.  We've done a lot of great stuff together here on SC, so his immediate instincts were to let me have a run at it.   Thanks Ian.  The tune reminds me so much of one of the all-time classics - Mountain's Mississippi Queen

So here it is Ian.  He hasn't heard it yet but sure he'll approve.  And check out Ian's fantastically funky gallery - so much great stuff from the fine Chef himself, and many outstanding collabs too.

Hey guys,I have been extremely fortunate in recieving a gift of a Yamaha Clavinova Organ....what a machine! I remember playing one of the earliest "Clavs" when I had a saturday job at Edinburgh Organ Studio....it was so ahead of it's time compared to many similar instruments....anyways,enough blethering....this is my first effort at recording from it...I laid down the drums,then double bass,then piano,a little baritone sax and finally the hammond style organ,all from the "Clav"....I had such a laugh trying to get my keys up to a recordable standard...hope you guys enjoy it...laidd down a rhythm track on guitar and then a couple of solo's to finish it all off....what a hooooot!!!!

When you want some seriously funky guitar playing look no further than Edinburgh's Ian Tait.  Ian's got that feel, that sound, that taste and that rhythm that one can't teach.  It just oozes from every recording he has done.  Check out his outstanding wah track here and his textbook lines, as he once again gets more funk out of his guitar than almost anyone can.  No need to ever tell Ian to Keep It Funky, especially on our original here.

Keep It Funky - with Ian Tait / guitar

Hey...Thanks for stopping by, I'm sure I've got something in my "Track List" that you will enjoy...From Reggae to Heavy Rock via Blues and I've even got a Retro TV Theme in there :)

Besides being taught the basic chords at the age of eight I am completely self taught. Sadly this also means that I don't read music, relying on my "ear" to pick out lines/playing styles/tracks etc :) But hey...I get by ok...don't I??? :)

Born, Bred, Raised and Living in Edinburgh Scotland. I'm a family man and fully trained Head Chef who never lived up to his musical potential...I'm sure that must stand for a few of us...yeah?
