Snarky Puppy -  Lingus

I recently purchased Cinesamples' latest library, CineSymphony LITE. I decided to remix A Hero's Return, which I wrote earlier this year, using the samples that came with CineSymphony LITE. Flutes, Oboes, Clarinets, Clarinets, French Horns, Trumpets, Trombones, Tuba, mostly all percussion, and all strings are from CineSymphony LITE.

The mix was done in Pro Tools by Troy Sargent

Kingdom of Riqira

My latest overdub recording is of my trombone choir arrangement of John Williams' “The Tusken Camp and the Death of Anakin’s Mother” from Star Wars Episode 2. This is a powerful and pivotal moment in Anakin’s journey towards becoming Lord Vader. It starts with the gentle music that sets the scene of Anakin’s rescue of his near death and frail Mother who has been captured and tortured by a group of Tusken Raiders. It’s been years since she’s seen him and she shares how proud she is at the Jedi her little boy has become. After she dies in his arms, the powerful and uncontainable rage Anakin feels surges forth, and he brutally slaughters the village in savage retribution. The Imperial March peeks out as Anakin’s inner Lord Vader is revealed. His hate has made him powerful...

I made a little tune for Iris. It's probably the last thing you'd expect to come from me. You can even download it if you want.

Here's how it originated. Iris's dog, Chloe, came into our room, and Iris said, "Ya viene la metiche." Instantly, I made up a tune with the words: 
Ay ya, viene la metiche
La metiche, la metiche viene
Ay ya, viene la metiche
Le metiche, la metiche viene ya.

La Metiche [Logic Pro Mock-Up]

The text for this piece was taken from two Psalms in the Bible: Psalm 22:1-5 and Psalm 96:1-4.  The beginning of the piece begins with Psalm 22 with a dark and solitary mood, which is later, uplifted by the lullaby melody of Psalm 96 with the introduction of a Piano solo.  The text is set in Spanish, below are the verses that are used in the piece as well as the English translation.

Imperial March “Reboot”

My latest overdub recording is of my revamped trombone choir arrangement of the Imperial March from the score to Star Wars “The Empire Strikes Back” composed by John Williams. This is a “Reboot” of my original arrangement.

As some of you know, I’m rerecording some of my old recordings with the new and improved gear and software I have in preparation for an album I will release, hopefully soon!

It really kicks into “Full Vader mode” in the last minute…

Create Flight

Composed in collaboration for the Oklahoma City Skydance Bridge, "On the Shoulders of Giants", is a work between Mathew Campbell and Amanda Miller (lighting designer) about the Pillars of Creation seen in the Eagle Nebula. 

Program notes:
The piece opens up with shimmering metallic percussion and takes the listener on a journey from viewing the Pillars of Creation from a distance. The music zooms in and views the intricacies of each pillar through use of driving strings and solo woodwind lines. The piece grows, through use of electronic and cinematic effects, to reach the climax sounded by the full orchestra. After the apex of the piece, the music zooms out to view the three pillars as a whole through use of shimmering tones in the metallic percussion instruments, sustaining strings, and harp to close out the work similarly to how it starts.

This work was created using Logic Pro X and Native Instruments Kontakt 5 and various sound libraries. The lighting design was not to have flashing or strobing effects due to the bridge residing over Interstate 40 to prevent hazardous driving conditions. The collaboration took place over one month -  Late September and Early October. Enjoy!
